Another odd question ....ice for coolers

We usually eat breakfat in our room when we travel so we bring a fairly big cooler with a gallon of milk and some yogurt, OJ and such. I have been to hotels that will sell bags of ice so you can keep your coolers full so people with coolers are not taking all the ice ment for the rooms. Does RPR have a place we can buy ice by the bag or will we have to leave and go to a gas station or something? Thanks

When I was at HRH last month there was a sign on the ice machine that said for larger quantities of ice, contact star services. I would imagine it is the same at RPR.

BTW--do you have one of those double walled 5 day "Extreme" coolers? I find they work very well. I also freeze a gallon container of water (Don't fill it all the way) to put in the cooler. If you are careful to limit the # of times you open the cooler, it stays pretty cold, even without extra ice (I do throw in a few of those blue things!) That way, you do not have a lot of water as the ice melts. I have always wanted to ask star services to refreeze my blue things for me--but never have!

Thank you for your consideration of other guests! :thumbsup2

I do have that cooler and have froze the milk jugs when camping - makes great drinking water after it finally melts. But we will have a two day drive t get there with the cooler sitting in the back of the suv so I wasn't sure how well it would last. I will prob. do one jug of water and freeze a few water bottles but was wondering for the end of the week. I have never stayed at an onsite resort anywhere ever and am kinda looking forward to just relaxing and not having to drive anywhere for anything. I have also never payed this much for a motel either and havn't been able to stop feeling guilty. This will be very different for us, we usually stay at the lowest price place we can find and frequantly camp in national forest campgrounds. You know the kind with no electric, showers, or flushing toilets. This will be a big change!

at the end of universal blvd going east, there is a strip mall.
you can buy bags of ice there and groceries at the publix.

its only a very short drive to rph from there.

stock up on the ice right before you get to the hotel

I guess I never thought of using up all the ice, but I wheel mine down to the ice machine and fill it up. If there is a sign there to ask room service to bring ice, I think that is a great idea. I certainly would not make a special trip out to buy it.

I have been to a hotel when that has happened before. We even called the front desk and they said they were completely out throughout the hotel complex. I am a big icewater drinker so it was a real bummer for me! There were signs up the next day asking people not to fill coolers with the ice from the machines.

I've stayed at rpr several times and have always used the ice machine to
fill my cooler(48qt) , never seen any sign about using star services, actually I
never have seen anybody using the ice machine......werid uh?
they have more than 1 ice machine compared to most hotels having just 1 for all the guest to use.

I don't think it's a problem at the RPR. There is an ice machine in the center of each wing, on each floor. So that means there are 21 ice machines on the property. I think one time the machine on the first floor was out, so I went up to the 6th floor and found ice. At the HRH, they had 2 ice machines next to each other. Those machines serve the entire floor, so they run out.

The other thing, is fill your coolers early in the morning. Most people hit the ice machines at night after checking in. In the early morning, most are sleeping.

Yes, it's not fun to wake up at 6am and carry a cooler down the hallway, but that's exactly what I do.
