Here is the situation.
Neighbors moved in about 6 years ago. When they moved in they put an 8 ft stockade fence around their grass they said to keep their dog from wandering. Their driveway is not fenced and touches my property line.
Neighbors have picnics all the time in their fenced yard. I am not invited but it is always family, not like it is friends etc.. and I was left out.
Last week for the 4th I had a picnic with some family and friends. I had told the neighbors about the picnic and told them that if they wanted to come I am asking everyone to bring something for the table (salad or dessert) and to let me know what they would bring so I wouldn't get doubles. I would provide the meats and buns. She never got back to me about what she would bring even though I point blank asked her the day before if they were coming and what they could bring since I had heard from everyone else already and didn't want her to bring something we already were going to have.
Anyway... I had my son who is the chef at the grill and I brought out all the salads I had made and a few others had brought. The next thing I know the neighbors and their 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren are over at the picnic table eating hot dogs and hamburgers. The wife said to me, We didn't bring anything for the table because we only wanted a few dogs and burgers.
I have had picnics before where the daughters, who are in their late 20's, about the age of my boys have invited themselves but never had the older neighbors.
Another problem I have is their dog pushes the gate open and comes into my yard and makes his mess. Their yard is georgeous, beautiful grass and no urine burns, my yard is a mess from their dog and mine.
The daughters have kids and when they visit (once a day) they play with my grandson's toys and go on the swing and climbing stuff and make a mess and never clean it up. I have told them over and over that I am tired of cleaning up and they have to learn to put the toys back where they find them but to no avail. The daughters sit on my lawn furniture and there have been times when I come outside to sit and I have nothing to sit on.
I am debating putting up a fence now. My son thinks I am making more of this than I should but I am tired of them coming over and using my yard while they have a nice fenced in yard, no toys outside for the kids and nice green grass. I don't think talking to them will work since I have already told them numerous times that I don't want hteir dog messing in my yard and they have to watch him when they let him out so he doesn't come over.

Ugghh! They sound very annoying. I'd be thinking about a fence too. Got to give it to them....very creative solution to getting out of bringing something to a picnic.

Get a fence and don't let them know when your next cookout will be held.

How very rude of them. "A few hotdogs and hamburgers" indeed. I'd send them a bill.

1) Stop inviting them. If they come over when you're entertaining, tell them that you're sorry but there's not enough grub for them.

2) Latch your gate.

Yikes! Everything you described is so rude. I would be so upset finding them in MY yard enjoying the toys and furniture. I wouldn't hesitate putting up a fence as far as their feelings go because they obviously don't think twice about yours. Maybe a storage bin for the toys with a nice lock would give them a hint. I wouldn't invite them over again either.

The neighbors behind us are snowbirds who, even after 4 years of living here, don't know our names or anything about us. We had a fence quote a few months ago because ours is super old. The wife came out and asked how high we were going to be going with the fence! I was looking at her like, are you serious? I'll put up the highest fence I want. What was she going to miss? The view of our house?

Get that fence up asap!!

We had to put up a fence between one our neighbors and our house because their grandkids would come over and play on our wooden swingset while we weren't home:scared1:! I never minded them playing on it while my kids were out there playing too. At least I was watching them but everytime we would come home from town we would find them playing on it. My dh would go out and tell them they weren't allowed to play on it while we were not home and they had to go home. Man, those kids would just stay on the swingset and glare at him and not leave. He finally had to tell the grandparents that they needed to keep thier kids out of our yard unless we were home. It was a liablity issue. They still didn't stop coming over so up went the fence. I guess they got the message because we haven't had any problems sense.

Oh and the dog issue really gets me too. I have another neighbor who lets her dog run all over the neighborhood. He mostly stays in my front yard and craps all over the place. I'm hoping one day that dog comes up missing. I'm tired of him ruining my yard. Oh and don't get me started on the dang cats that another neighbor has. She lets them breed and breed and breed, then they all end up in my yard. What is it with my yard geez!!

OHG ! You are not overreacting at all. Get a fence ! Now. Let them mess up their yard, get their own toys & eat their own darn hotdogs in their yard not yours. That should be your place to do whatever "you" want. Just think of a nice lawn chair, a cold iced tea, your grand kids playing on the swing in your immaculate lawn with a big old fence separating you from the neighbors :lmao:

I'd be getting a shovel and returning the neighbor's dog's "deposits" back to their own yard...
