Another Measles exposure? Yikes!

PSA: If you were born between 1957 and 1971 (I think those are the years), the CDC recommends getting a titre test (simple, inexpensive blood test) to see if you are immune to measles. The CDC says that the measles vaccine during those years was only about 50% effective. I know APs who had titre tests done during the 2015 DLR measles scare and discovered that they were not immune!

Thanks for this info. Wondering why not just get vaccinated again instead of titre test. Is there harm in that?

For most healthy people, probably not. But there are always exceptions -- and since you have to ask to get a titre test, you could ask at the same time whether your doctor thinks it better to just get a booster shot instead.

one of the few "advantages" of being born in 1955.

I remember having a notice posted on the front door. no one that hasn't had the measles allowed out.

there was one time, the station wagon was all packed and we were all waiting at home for the doctor to arrive (doctors did house calls in the old days). I think it was mumps this time, we couldn't leave on our family vacation to southern California and Disneyland until he gave us the ok to leave.

there hasn't been much more in the news about this so the girl might not have been in the highly infectious stage when she was out and about in southern California.

After reading about the measles outbreaks this summer I had my titers checked. I'm immune to the chickenpox but I needed the MMR vaccines again. I had my second shot yesterday. I need some other vaccines again so I'm dropping by the doctor's office every few weeks to get that done.
