Well, actually 3 questions. Thanks to everyone who is helping me decide on this....major...simple decision. :confused3

question #1. At Washington DC Reagan airport on JB airlines, with 6 people, one in a wheelchair, do you think 30mins is enough time to get from 1 plane to another?

#2. How do you find out if you are expected to change planes, or if it is just a stop with no plane change. I was assuming (yeah I know, never assume), with only 30 mins between flights we would not be changing planes.

#3 Am I correct that we wouldn't have to change our checked luggage, that the airline does that. (please).

Thanks again for all you who are so knowledgable & willing to help!

Do the flights have different flight #'s? If so, then there is a change of plane.

They would transfer your luggage automatically but with a short connection it's possible it may not make it and will be put on the next flight.

I'm not sure how many gates Jet Blue has at DCA to judge how far you may have to go. If they only have a small number and they are on the same concourse, then it might be doable.

Thanks DebbieB. Yup, the flight has different #'s. I was afraid you were going to say that. ;)

hmm...what to do.

You mentioned a wheelchair. Will they need a wheelchair to get off the plane or can they walk that far? If not, then they will have to wait until everyone else gets off to bring the wheelchair on. That will really cut your time to get to the next flight.

Walking off the plane to the chair is no problem. Short distances isn't a problem. Good thought though, thanks.

I just heard, if an airline publishes a stop over flight, that they are responsible to ensure the passengers are able to make the flight changes. (not the exact wording, but hopefully, you get the gist). Can anyone confirm that. I am just nervous our family of 5 adults & a 6 year old are going to be stranded in Washington DC, when we should be having dinner with THE big cheese!

Not sure where you got this from but this hasn't been my experience personally. I've been on several connecting flights where the second flight has left without me because the first flight was running late. The first flight can run late for all types of reasons, not just weather reasons.

In my personal opinion I would not try to do a plane change with only 30 minutes to spare. The other plane will be boarding by the time your plane pulls into the gate. With a younger child and an adult who can't walk fast or long distances this is not a gamble I would want to make.

Thanks Everyone. I decided to play it safe & booked my flight going down with a 2 hr stop over. I truly appreciate the help!!

I don't know if things has changed, but I don't know that this is true.

Back in September of 2008, we flew jetBlue with a layover in JFK. We were on flight 219 into JFK and flight 9 into MCO. It was the same plane at the same arrival/departure gate.

We were supposed to get off the plane and check back in for the flight from JFK to MCO - but we had a 2 year old who had fallen asleep. We had the exact same seats for both flights, so we asked if we could just stay put. They were MORE than accommodating and allowed us to do that.

They are required to get you on the next available flight with open seats (which may not be right away) if it's a mechanical problem or within their control. For weather delays, all bets are off. Not sure if Jet Blue interlines, which means they have an agreement with other airlines to take their passengers if they have available seats. For example, one time I had a USAir flight that was delayed, they put me on Northwest.

Airlines can't promise you will make their connections but they will sometimes hold a plane if they know people are coming and will only be a few minutes. I've been on several flights that sat a few minutes at the gate to wait for people coming from a connecting flight.

But, if its going to be more than a few minutes, they will not guarantee anything. Once, due to a combinations of mechanical and weather issues, I arrived in Atlanta 6 hours late. The connecting flight I was supposed to take to Boston was long gone. They gave me a confirmed seat on a flight a few hours away but I was able to get on the next flight out going stand by. And I found out later that that flight was supposed to be full, but wasn't because so many people didn't make their connections.
