my husb and I are all italian and have 3 children 4-7
i have a ressie booked at tonys square on the day of the MNSSHP. i am close to cancelling because of the yuck stories I have heard....BUT my kids will eat anything with edible sauce on it(it is edible-right?)
soooo we r also debating hopping to epcot from PO on our way to the party to eat at tutto....question is.....is it kid friendly? will my kids enjoy the atmosphere better at tonys?(they love lady/tramp)
honestly i make my own italian and we realize it wont be the greatest at any of the places...but at least we r expecting decent.....the trip is for the kids to enjoy....they love mcdonalds i hate it but i will eat there for an afternoon to please them once in a while(we r pretty easy and dont complain tooo much-hah)
SO which should i do?
be honest and remember 3 little ones.....THANKS!!!

There's also Via Napoli to consider. :rotfl: All 3 restaurants are fine for kids. I'm not sure if the extra traveling is worth it, I'd probably just stick with Tony's. I think you'll be happy with any of the three, enjoy where ever you end up. :)

thanks! i also have via napoli sched r last day:):)
if i dont gain weight this trip i never will! i have never planned so much around food in my life--lol

I'll have my lime green Mickey on my purse, I'm sure I'm bound to run into some Disers either at the MNSSHP or the Food and Wine festival. Can't wait!!!

A reasonable middle ground is Mama Melrose's at Hollywood Studios, you might want to consider it. Tutto is pricey - if I was going to go that direction cost-wise I'd go to Il Mulino, but I don't dine on the dining plan (Il Mulino is not available for free dining or dining plans). Portobello's is also adequate, but may not deliver for the kids' plain red sauce and cheese palate.

If you want to die for Italian food go to Il Mulino...it ROCKS!

Tutto is very good too but everytime we eat there we feel very rushed.

Tony's is great, DH loves it because it is like Olive Garden (I am Italian and cook like my Nonni but yet he loves OG)

Mama Melrose is good too, again it is like Carrabas or Olive Garden

My kids won't touch any red sauce at Disney except for Tutto Italia or Wolfgang Puck Cafe. I am Italian, born and raised in Italy, we make our own homemade tomato sauce. that being said I have eaten at Tony's had the Mozzarella and tomato salad and loved it, The mushroom ravioli were really good (cream sauce), Cesar salad was very good.

The sauce at Tony's and Mama Melrose tastes like Ragu or Prego to me which I had once at a friends house and never will touch it again.

Sounds like its not your kids you have to worry about but yourself. If they eat at McDonalds than they will be fine. Im all Italian to. I know what you mean about your sauce (or do you still call it gravy). My wife is half italian from her fathers side. She liked the italian restaurant in EPCOT. I didn't. My little one was fine. You will have to take a chance. You know a sauce in a italian home is very special. To me the sauce in Tutto italia is too salty.

I can only speak of Tutto because we've never tried Tony's (or any of the other Italian on property for that matter) but we found Tutto to be wonderful and our kids truly enjoyed it. The food was fresh and delicious, the atmosphere was very relaxed yet not stuffy and our server was a wealth of knowledge on her native Milan which my DD6 found fascinating. It was honestly one of our favorite meals of our entire trip.

We always eat at Tony's, it's a last night tradition. They used to be sponsered by Buitoni so I assumed Tony's used their pasta and sauce - now whether they still are or not, I don't know. Very kid friendly, location is great and the Lady and the Tramp theme is adorable.

my thoughts exactly. Your little ones will have a blast though. It's a very pretty restaurant and we've always gotten great servers. The food sucks though.

You will get many opinions... I have never had a bad meal at Tony's it is what you can expect in the price range period...
The others TUTO was good but not Italian food and certianly not worth the price. MM I thought was by far not good.. however if you come from an area that does not have brick oven pizza it is OK at best....

I eat and make italian all the time. I'm not italian but I live in NYC & I make my own sauce - no jars sauce for us. Tony's is equal to Olive Garden. Its okay, not great but okay.
If you want good italian - Tutto Italia in Epcot is very good - authentic or close to it anywhere in Disney. I haven't tried the new one in Epcot yet & Mama Melrose in HS would also be like Olive Garden.

We're not Italian, but love Italian food. However, Ragu is good for us, so we're not picky. We ate at Tony's & Mama Melrose and thought both were okay, nothing special. Carrabba's is our favorite Italian restaurant.

We're Italian and we have learned one thing while dining at Disney....
NOTHING can compare to what you are used to eating at home (well Italian cuisine anyway), so seriously, set the bar low :rotfl:
We ate at Tony's years ago and it was ok, its edible. We also ate at Mama Melrose in 08 and we'll never go there ever again, it was just awful.
We ate at Alfredo's (where Tutto is now) and I really don't remember much of it, I was little.
I am however, DYING to try Via Napoli next year.

Honestly, my first thought was- if you are Italian, why are you eating at Italian restaurants? I'm sure you can make it better at home. I'd try restaurants in the other countries in EPCOT at least. We liked Tutto Italia, but it wasn't anything close to the food we ate when we lived in Italy.

II Mulino would be the ONLY one I would try. I have tried the rest and Olive Garden is IMO ok but opposed to WDW Olive Garden rocks. So try II Mulino and good luck.:thumbsup2
