A poster on another thread mentioned that you should brush your teeth after EVERY meal. Do you actually do this? Do you also brush when you first get up and before you go to bed - that would be five times per day?

We brush when we get up and before bed, DH mentioned that he did brush after all meals back when he had braces (as a teen). Just wondering what others do.

The kids brush when they get up, and when they go to bed. We also floss at bed time. I always send them carrots at lunch which a dentist told me is like a "natural toothbrush" and is helpful after eating sticky or sweet foods like fruit snacks...I don't know how true it is, but they like carrots and always save them for last!

I'm a little more obsessive. I brush my teeth after every meal, even at work...I don't scrub them super hard b/c that can be damaging, but I brush. I don't want to have peanut butter breath!

We all brush our teeth after breakfast and before bedtime. Since I am a SAHM I also brush after lunch and anytime I feel I need it.

Our girls see a pediatric dentist who is fine with them brushing twice a day. If they have anything particularly sticky (like gummies) I will have them brush more often. No cavities so far!!!

As for me, I brush at least twice a day and always after milk or cheese because I hate that taste in my mouth.

We all brush twice a day. If I eat something particularly pungent at work, I'll brush my teeth after lunch too but that's more so I don't gag my coworkers rather than an effort at excellent dental hygeine. :)

Who the heck has time to brush after every meal :confused3 ? Heck I am lucky I get them done twice a day for me and the kids! Definitely not happening in my life :lmao: .

Definitely only brush in the morning and before bed. It is rare that I have ever seen someone whip out a toothbrush to brush after lunch or a snack when I worked in the office-actually, I only remember one person doing this. I save pungent dishes for home dinners and breath mints usually do the trick for anything else.

Don't brush when you get up. I'm adding that to the list of passe' things.

Instead, brush after breakfast.

In the evening, you don't have to brush within ten minutes of going to bed, anytime after the last item eaten will be fine.

Also passe': "hard" toothbrushes. Get the softest brush you can and do not brush strongly or roughly.

If you don't have time to brush, say after lunch at work, at least rinse out your mouth a few times with warm water.

Keep to an absolute minimum the slamming of the dental floss down to the gum between your teeth. If it hurts, then you did it wrong. If you have trouble getting the floss in, saw back and forth. If the fluffy brand of dental floss keeps breaking, get the smooth brand.
