Tropical Storm Cindy upgraded to hurricane seven months later

The 2005 Atlantic hurricane season just got a little bit busier, but no one is in danger this time.
National Hurricane Center forecasters upgraded Tropical Storm Cindy to a hurricane Thursday, nearly seven months after it hit southeastern Louisiana. That put last season's tally at 15 hurricanes, extending the year's record. Before then, 12 hurricanes in 1969 were the most on record.
Cindy turned out to have a small area of sustained winds that reached 75 mph, just 1 mph over the hurricane threshold. In the center's postseason report on Cindy, forecasters said re-examining radar data from Slidell, La., them to bump up the storm's wind speed from 70 mph.
It made landfall on July 5 just southwest of Grand Isle in southeastern Louisiana. It affected the Gulf Coast, including New Orleans, but caused only an estimated $160 million in insured damage.
Cindy paled in comparison to Katrina, which followed less than two months later. Katrina is the costliest hurricane in U.S. history and the deadliest since 1928.
The 2005 season set many records, including for the most named storms (27). The 2006 season starts June 1 and ends Nov. 30.
