I am curious if there is a way to get into disneyland the back way. If we are to park in the parking lot, do we have to walk all the way around to the front of DL? I ask this because we are thinking of staying somewhere farther away and driving in. I can save some $$ by staying at a 60+ a night as apposed to 100+ a night. Thank you.

You don't have to walk, you can take the tram, but yes, you have to either go to the front of DL or take the monorail in (which means you walk through the parking area to DTD).

I am curious if I stayed at a hotel close to the parking area which one would work best, and how far is the walk to the monorail? Thank you.

If you were saying at a hotel near the parking lot, then I'd recommend taking the tram from the parking lot. It will take you to a common drop-off to get to both theme parks and Downtown Disney.

To get to the monorail, you would walk past the parking structure, past the Downtown Disney parking lot, through the west end of Downtown Disney to get to the monorail.

The Candy Cane Inn, Howard Johnsons and Best Western are all popular choices. I usually stay onsite or with friends, so have never stayed at any off site hotels.
www.tripadvisor.com has reviews of these hotels

I was thinking about the Ramada Inn Maingate. Seems close. The price seems right. Anyone stay here? Thank you.

I don't mean to steal your thread but I think my question is similar.

We will be staying at the Best Western Stovall's Inn (only hotel that we could use airmiles for). The maps are confusing. Has anyone stayed here? Would it be best to:
A.)walk to DD and take the monorail
B.)walk to the parking lot and take the tram
C.)take the provided shuttle/tram service

Personally, I like the Ramada Inn Maingate for an economy hotel. It's right across the street, within walking distance, and they have a little food courtyard.

My ex stayed there a couple of months ago & he said the room was decent.

If you're willing to pay a little more, I also like the Tropicana Inn. It's reasonable, and very clean.

I would either take the shuttle/ tram (ART?), or walk up to the Grand CA, cut thru there, and into downtown Disney. From there you can either take the mono rail or just walk to the enterance. We stayed there a long time ago, before DCA and the grand were built. Its a long walk, but doable.

Expedia has the Ramada main gate for $92 or the Hojo's for $112. For the $20 bucks I would go with the hojo's in a heart beat.

I agree with this. I would say it's better to walk to the main entrance than take the monorail, but then again you weigh going through a longer line at security versus walking "back" to the monorail and waiting in that line.

The issue is that no matter what I do my wife does not want to stay at the Hojo. We stayed there a few years back, and were stuck in a room that had no A/C no matter how much we complained. That place is definately not on the list. =(

Expedia had Tropicana for $119 one night and $99 the other two nights. Maybe check their website and see if you could get a lower rate through them directly.
