What's the strangest restriction your HOA imposes on the neighborhood?

Mine won't allow us to put up a "FOR SALE" sign in our yard. We also can't have above-ground pools, non-working vehicles, and our out-buildings must be of the same material the house is made of...as in "no metal outbuildings!"

What does your HOA do to you?

Mine is the same way. No signs what so ever. Pretty hard I guess when you are trying to sell a house. Also, no sheds. If we want a storage unit?, we have to have it attached to the house. Which in other words, we have to do an add on to the house. We can only have wood fences - four feet high too.

Ours is pretty much the same way. You can only have political signs for 2 weeks prior to the actual event (election, whatever). We also are not allowed to have signs that let people know we are proud of our HS football/baseball/soccer/whatever team. :(

We can't have our trashcans outside either, which makes our 2 car garage into a 1 car,3 trashcan and 1 recycle bin garage. :(

I'm sure if they knew about our deck we built onto the back a couple of years ago, they'd have a fit because we didn't run it by the architechtural change committee first.

Not mine, but my brother's won't allow you to park any cars in front of your house after 7 PM any night. One family moved in with 3 driving teenagers = 5 cars. They couldn't all fit in the garage and the driveway. My only thing about that was that they knew that moving in, so why gripe? My brother complains about it all the time, but he knew them before he moved in because I remember him complaining about it. They also are only allowed those black iron fences instead of a traditional wood fence and their chimney must be all brick.

OMG..I'm glad I don't live there! We have a HUGE backyard which requires more than one trashcan for the clippings. Thus, we have 3 cans and they are about as tall as I am and nearly as big around. I could probably fit inside one if I really tried. We also have a recycling bin that is nearly as large as the trashcan. If we had the same rules as your brother, we'd be MOVING. We cannot, in any way shape or form, fit both cars into our garage because of the cans.
