Another hefty price increase

sigh....it was a comparison about how people are ok with paying the pretty steep price for admission to the parks but they get bent out of shape for the cost of a drink while in the park.

I can be bent out of shape about both of them. One isn't mutually exclusive to the other.

I get your point disneykelly - it may seem like people being penny wise and pound foolish.

However, I'm flexible like MariMama - I can get bent out of shape over ticket prices, food prices, drink prices, CM cuts, shortened hours, and upcharge events all at once! :crazy2:

Food prices EVERYWHERE are going up.
Without getting small quantities of Fast Food it is hard to go anywhere for a decent lunch without paying over $10 now .. Unless you are getting a mediocre sub at Subway .. you pay $8.00+ for any sort of deli sandwich or burger.

But some people don't even pay attention to prices and will just pay whatever out of sheer convenience. It always boggled my mind to see how some people pay $8-10 a beer and consuming 5+ of them during a baseball game, easily spending more on mass-produced beer than the ticket itself.
Some people just value different things or just don't care.

For me .. if I am "forced" (being a captive audience) to pay for overpriced things .. I usually end up cutting back.
What's odd .. is I know I would spend MORE money if I felt the things were more in line what the prices "should" be.
Example .. I never buy popcorn or a soda at the theater. I can't just see paying $10+ on top of a $10 ticket for food that I could get at the grocery store for a fraction of that cost. It is just so crazily overpriced for what you get. So I buy nothing. They get no concession money from me ever .. total money spent: $10.
If a popcorn and a soda cost $5 .. guess what? Sure, it is still more expensive than I could get elsewhere, but it isn't an crazy price. So, I'd consider buying it almost EVERY time and I'd spend $15 every trip (as I am sure others would too).

But then again . as I've said before ..the world is full of "whales" that don't care about the price and just buy things on impulse at big prices. Our economy is DRIVEN by people like that .. people who will pay $1.75 for a bottle of soda at a gas station when they could buy 8 bottles for about $4-5 at the grocery store (or heck . at the VERY same convenience store). People who buy something because it is "on sale" .. despite the regular price being over inflated to make the sale price "look" good. Etc. Etc.
Some people just look at the short-term as opposed to the long-term.

Pack your lunch every day during your WDW vacation? That could save you enough money to get a special event .. an extra souvenir .. a hopper pass, without spending more than your budget.

Other than a beer or one or two snacks, all of our meals will be off site. Renting a car will end up saving us hundreds of dollars.
It's a no brainer for us to get a car. Usually take 2 or 3 day trip to beach added to Disney vac PLUS Cold Stone ice cream and that pizza restaurant at Old Town is just down the road on hwy 192 or something like that.

:thumbsup2 Exactly! What I meant above. . . At slightly inflated prices, I sigh, then hand over my wallet. At drastically inflated prices, especially having taken a recent jump to get there, I gasp and can't bring myself to play along. I imagine this isn't unique to me, and this seems a sure way to actually lose money on a decent segment of customers.

Then don't go. If you are ok with spending the what most rational people consider hefty price just to get into the park, but not for a 3 dollar bottle of water, then your priorities need to be examined.
It would be one thing if these cost increases were the only ones, but you're talking about rooms, food, park tickets, drinks. Basically everything has soared in cost at WDW over the last year. If you're OK with that, then you don't value your money.

Prices are what they are. Here in KC at Worlds of Fun the prices are just as much if not more than at Disney. I don't have a problem with the Increase Pay it or don't. It what it is. Much cheaper than at a ballgame or movie. Here in KC you can't bring food into the park. Its always been like that

Am I ok with the high cost? I guess I have to be if I want to go. I would rather things be priced much more reasonable. I think that all of the above makes it difficult, if not impossible, for a lot of people to be able to go.
I was speaking strictly on the rise in cost of the quick service stuff.
Do I value my money? yes. For most people would it be considered a waste to spend so much for a week at Disney? Yes. Most would think that I do not value my money for spending so much In such a short period of time.
But I do look at the overall picture, and I consider the benefit to my health and wellbeing by going once a year or every other year.
The cost, to me, is worth it because that little bit of time at Disney does wonders on my overall.
You can tell by my crabbiness that my joy tank is a little empty, and needs a refill. Thankfully I am heading down Sunday.
:)

I'll use an example. In Chicago, a world class city with world class restaurants there is a hot new steak place call Maple and Ash. Their prices are quite a bit cheaper than Le Cellier and I'd contend the quality of food and service is much higher.
Filet Mignon - Le Cellier $52 M&A $38
NY Strip - Le Cellier $49 M&A $44
Agnolotti - Le Cellier $28 M&A $20
Half chicken - Le Cellier $35 M&A $26

Really???
Really. If you are ok with spending 100+ per day, then you *should* be ok with spending 3 bucks for a bottle of water.
Yes, both are high, but if you are ok with the cost to get into the park but all of a sudden think it is highway robbery to spend that much on a bottle of water, this would be an example of skewed priorities. Maybe I am using the wrong word, but I hope you got the idea.
Most people don't like the cost for either, but they just try not to think about it and just enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the heads up, may heave to try it out. Looks great!

Since folks didn't like my comparison to museums/sporting events/one day type locations and the prices they charge I did some digging. As you can see Disney is pretty "nice" to allow folks to bring outside food in. You can pack your lunch and enjoy it while sitting outside the Pirates or Haunted Mansion. But try and do that in Seuss Landing and you will be in big trouble. Probably won't even get through the front gate with that PBJ - unless it fits in that tiny cooler.

Kings Dominion: Virginia (Owned by Cedar Fair - so this rule applies to all locations 14 total)

Am I permitted to bring my own food and beverages into the park?
For everyone's safety, guests are not permitted to bring coolers, outside food, or other drinks into Kings Dominion. Three shaded picnic areas are available in the guest parking lot. Grills and open fires are not allowed. Individuals who have special diets or need items due to a medical condition are asked to visit Guest Services located at the Front Gate for accommodation.

Hershey Park: Pennsylvania

Other than one sealed water bottle per person, Hersheypark does not permit food or drink to be brought into the Park. Guests with special dietary needs can review our food and beverage information. The Outpost restaurant features allergen friendly food

Is it crazy to pay $3.00 for a bottle of soda - YES / NO / MAYBE
Do you have to pay it? YES / NO / MAYBE
Do you want to pack your lunch or leave to go somewhere else and eat? YES / NO / MAYBE

See what I did there - choices! That's what this is all about. We should be happy that we have choices. Just look above! Does it bother me that someone wants to leave and purchase their lunch off-site - heck no. Means that there's one less family looking for a dining location in the park. Does it bother me that a family is sitting eating their lunch that they packed - heck no. Do I want to leave the park and find lunch or put a PBJ sandwich together in my room and throw it in my bag? Nope - it's not for me. But that's ok. Because not everything is going to appeal to everyone. It's the old saying:
You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time

We try to bring in 1 drink each more recently, and we'll try to remember about the free water refills at QS too

maybe I'll notice there's a whole lot more in central FL that I never looked at before. . . Hey maybe I'll buy tickets to some of THOSE places!

Their food and drinks won't cost much less. And they might not even allow you to bring yours in.
