Another hair color question

I colored my hair last night with non-permanent Loreal ColorSpa Actif. I like it, but it's really a little too dark. It's supposed to wash out in 28 washes, but I was thinking of just putting a lighter, non-permanent Loreal ColorSpa Actif color on it (lighter). Should I? Would that mess something up? Or should I just wait until it all washes out to re-color?

Much thanks!

I heard that the shampoo "Prell" will wash out the color you just put on. I would do that, then try again. However, I have never used over the counter hair color - I've only used a salon and when I had one bad color experience, I went back and changed it. Colored twice within 48 hours, and no problems. My hair was fine. If you are unhappy, change it. :teeth: Good luck!

Amanda,

Semi-permanent color will not lift semi-permanent color. You won't lighten it by putting a lighter color on it. You'd have to get into permanent color and I doubt you'd want to do that. If it is just "a little too dark" just allow it to lighten by shampooing. Sometimes it lightens pretty quickly. You could always add highlights if you wanted but what you are suggesting will not lighten it. Good luck!

Yeah, I think I'll just wash it several, several times tonight. Fun fun fun! Thanks!

No, I don't want to put a permanent color on my hair yet. I guess I'll just shampoo the heck out of it tonight. Next time I put the semi-permanent on it I'll go a shade or two lighter.

Thanks for all the advice!

I don't think I would apply a second color just after doing a full head color--you might dry out your hair. If it is a semi-permanent color, if you wash it a bunch of times, it will lighten. I know, because I once dyed my hair way too dark using a semi-permanent color. I was able to fix it with multiple shampoos.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but I'm curious about wash-in color. When you wash it in does it color your scalp or your forehead if you are accidentally enthusiastic? I've never done anything but permanent color and that has mostly been in the salon which is expensive. But  in the last couple of weeks I've found a few grey hairs. It's very sad...

My DD wanted to do a semi-permanent color but the instructions say that it won't wash out if the color is darker than your hair. Is this not true? Will the color wash out eventually?

I have medium brown hair and decided to use the Clariol Natural Instincts "Indigo" color when I was a teenager. The color was pretty much black. It was supposed to wash out in 28 washes but it was permanent. My mother almost killed me.

I would not do another wash out on top of wash out. You are just asking for trouble!

Janette, I would just take a good look at the color your DD wants to do vs her natural hair color. Most of them do eventually wash out even if it is a little darker. Just don't go black!

I'm a hairdresser:) I agree with the Prell, either that or dawn dish detergent. Just make sure you condition with a high protein conditioner. I wouldn't do another color just yet either. Good luck!
**this is what I recommend to my clients when they've done an at home color that they didn't like:)

Mary, semi permanent color can "stain" but usually comes off the skin pretty easily. From the pic in your siggie, you look pretty light so I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Semi permanent color is different than color that washes out in a few shampoos (I can't even think of what those are called!). But they will last about the same amount of time as a permanent color does depending on the intensity, porosity etc.
Permanent color leaves a line of demarkation (really visible roots). You can lighten or darken the hair with this.

Semi permanent you can match your haircolor or darken but it really won't lighten. Semi "stains" the hair so it also fades off instead of leaving a true line of demarkation.

Always start off choosing one that is lighter than what your desired results are. Always follow the directions. Color can look like it is going dark (and scare you to death) when it is oxidizing. However, most of the time, your hair will need the full amount of time. At least the sart of the time range (ie. 15 min. of the 15-30 mins suggested).

I can verfiy the dawn dish detergent works. :rotfl: That is what my mom used on me to get the black coloring out!!!!
