Another gripe about airfares

I'm trying to get a flight for 5 out of Boise in September. Last year I went ahead and purchased tickets on Delta for over $400 a person; United abruptly lowered their airfare to $220 each and I changed. This year United wants a mere $1200 a person (!?) and Delta is once again at $450. I'm trying any crazy combination I can (eg. flying into Chicago in the evening and flying out the next morning, etc.) but nothing is working. I really wish I were looking at the same airfares that some of you are dealing with! Forget the tiki gods - I need airfare gods! I'm checking in 3-4 different places twice daily. :(

Good Luck. I got 4 seats last month for PHilly to Oralando for $184 I think then they lowered the fare to $160 and if I would go out 40minutes later I could go for $150 each. If I had waited to purchase the tickets I can assure you they would have aised the fares to $220. I just have a knack for purchase plane tickets at the wrong time. last year I pair $40 more for each seat than my girlfriend and her family we were on the same flight.

they jsut started another air sale that must be purchased by may 24th. the fare all depends on inventory. when they detail a flight and see how man y open seats it has then it opens up fare in the lower classes of svc. for instance if you are looking for 4 tkts they may only have 3 available at the lower fare and then it will kick all 4 into the next higher class of svc. try booking it 2 and 2 or 3 and 1 and see if there is a difference in fares.then keep checking back and if you still need the one seat and a seat oepns up in that class then you can get it changed into that class of svc. (I hope you understand what I am trying to say)

Two parents with children, if you are daring:

If you try to book four of five seats and it kicks them all into the next higher fare bracket, try booking as many as you can on the first flight in the lower fare bracket and book the rest on a later flight (one parent on each flight).

When you get to the airport, those on the later flight stand by one at a time for the earlier flight with the second parent going last. This ensures that with any combination of successful or unsuccessful standbys no child will be alone.
