Another Good Job by Avalon at DCA

Just thought I would bring up that I had another great lunch at Avalon yesterday. I brought a friend to DCA for her 22nd birthday, and as is mandatory, I forced her to wear a sticker. She was greeted throughout the park as is customary, and decided that for her birthday she wanted character dining.

We went to Avalon at about 1:00 pm yesterday (Tuesday, June 25) and had an amazing lunch. She got the pasta, and I got the Pot Pie, and they were both delicious, and in huge portions well worth the price. Before we ever got the food, characters started interacting with her. She sat down, and I made a run to the ladies room, only to find upon coming back that Pluto had ordered on my behalf. (She had already known what I wanted, so apparently pluto pointed to something on the menu, but she pointed to the pot pie, he nodded then pointed out my dish to the waitress.) We interacted with characters to an extreme, as Dale insisted on being her birthday date by getting on his knees and looking longlingly into her eyes, as I snapped lots of photos. Chip wanted her to dance, Goofy and Minnie clapped quite a bit, and then Chip, Minnie, Goofy and the waitress brought out a slice of birthday cake for her without me even asking. (She just saw the birthday sticker).

It was great. This is fast becoming one of my favorite lunch destinations, character or otherwise, lacking only behind Blue Bayou, and perhaps Yamabuki (As I love the California Rolls, and they are at an extremely reasonable price).

Just thought I'd give my opinion, even though I know that this is sort of a trip report, but I know more folks read this board than that one.

Thanks for the great info on Avalon Cove. You mention that you have had lunch there a few times. IYHO.....is lunch or dinner a better choice? Since we will be at the DLH for a week....we have some options as to our dining choices/times.

Think I have figured out that Blue Bayou is a better lunch choice....and Goofy's Kitchen is great anytime!

Wondering about 4th of July weekend....are we nuts to be there then?!?
So far, here's our "tentative plan": Please comment!!

Dinner: Goofy's Kitchen

Tues, July 2
Lunch: Blue Bayou Dinner: Hook's Pointe

Wed, July 3
*Non-Disney* day (we have 6-day hopper)
Lunch: DLH/Pooll Dinner: Medieval Times

Thur, July 4
Lunch: ? Dinner: Have heard they do a "picnic BBQ" for concierge guests at DLH. Plan to watch fireworks from concierge lounge that night, per suggestion of travel agent

Fri, July 5
Lunch: ? Dinner: Avalon Cove

Sat., July 6 no plans yet....won't DL be PACKED??
Sun, July 7
Lunch & Dinner: no plan yet.....
Fantasmic Dessert Buffet 9pm Reservations!! YIPPEE!!
Mon, July 8th....we leave...but not before having breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen for a fond farewell!!!

I haven't made any reservations, except for Fantasmic and Medieval Times........what do you think?

P.S./ Tina...wow..you have some expertise about DL.....I printed out the info you gave last evening about touring the park....I think "starting to the left" is a grand idea....and loved the bathroom locations....going to read this over....highlight the really important stuff.....and carry it on the trip!

Thanks for all the help out there!! Still trying to get my knee ready for the trip....had surgery 3 weeks ago today......but what a better place to rehab than DL!!!! All the best, Karen

Truth be told, I've only been there for Lunch since it became character dining.

Of the four lunch character experiences I've had there, all were wonderful. Sorry if this doesn't help much.

Karen, it's never crazy to go to Disneyland but be prepared for HUGE CROWDS every day of your trip, especially the 4th through the weekend.

I would definitely recommend you make any other dining reservations you can NOW.
