I will be getting a GAC card for my 7 year old autistic DS. I will be getting a seperate for myself for a physical disability. My first question is, how does it work with other people in our family. Do I just show the card and as part of my party they are included on the card or do they get cards showing they are with us? Also, I know my autistic son needs to be present when getting the GAC but does the other members of the group. I have another 2 other children and my husband:confused3Doreen

A GAC is good for 5 people plus the one it is issued to. They will ask you for the number of people in your party. They will then put that number (if 6 or under) on the card as to how many people it is good for, but the person that it is issued for must ride in order for the others to use it. If the person it is issued for is not riding, then no one can use it.

Just time for a quick reply- check out post 6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. It is all about Guest Assistance Cards and should answer most of your questions. You can find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature to get there.
If your physical issues have to do with mobility, stamina or needing to sit, keep in mind that GACs don't usually shorten the distance walked and the only way to make sure you have a spot to dot is up bring it with you by using a wheelchair, ECV or walker with a seat.

Only the two of you need to be at Guest Relations. Your DH can wait with your other kids out of the way.

Have the GACs marked for the full size of your group. If you split up then the GAC goes with the person who the GAC is issued for and if different accomodations are needed for each GAC then it needs to indicate your full group.

For physical disabilities, about the only thing I can think of that a GAC can do to help is allow you to bypass stairs. If you have a mobility device then you don't even need the GAC because the mobility device makes the disability visible and the purpose of the GAC is for invisible disabilities. GACs can not shorten distances or wait times. Only a mobility device can help with difficulties walking that much.
