another *FREEZING* question: M & Ms :)

Anyone ever freeze them? If so, did they taste ok when thawed?

The large sized bag Easter version is 75% off in many stores and almost too good to resist!

I would know, as my mother is an M&M addict, and freezes them often.

They TASTE totally normal, but they LOOK different.

As the thaw, the get moist and the colors "melt" and blend into each other. They also won't be shiny anymore.

The issue with thawing Frozen M&Ms comes with the condensation that ultimately develops on the shell - try dunking an M&M in water and setting it on a plate to see what happens. Looks like a water color painting... Hey - maybe the kids can use this to create some modern art! Nah, they'd eat them before the condensation could happen.

I always freeze my M&Ms for a few hours before eating. Not sure how long term freezing affects them. Refrigeration in general makes chocolate "bloom" (it gets white stuff on it).

Good point.

Everyone should be aware that the "white stuff" is simply the chocolate structure being disturbed. It still tastes the same, although a bit more crumbly, but the shine which comes from proper tempering to align the strands is gone.

Not a big deal with candy coated chocolate though.

I've frozen M&Ms before. They taste the same when you eat them. I like to mix mine with cookie dough and I also like to mix them with ice cream.
