My husband and I have installed 2 different brands of the self-stick plank version in our walk-out basement and a rental property. The floor was smooth concrete with no cracks or pits so it was a snap to intstall and wears like iron. We converted the basement for my mother and father (who has a lot of hospital equipment rolling over it constantly). I wish it was suitable for other projects that we have done but if the subfloor isn't clean and smooth, it won't look right or might not stick properly. We have done laminate flooring on several occasions in our rentals/renovations and I REALLY dislike laying it. I don't like the wear factor either. I'd much rather install hardwood than fool with laminate. Just my experience, hope it helps!
