Another Fastpass+ question

I have never had to make a Fastpass selection in all the times I have been to Disney World. This will be the first year that I try it. My question: Can you pick the time you want or you just take whatever they give you when you make your reservations? I tried searching but could not find an answer to my question.

You pick your 3 FP choices for the park and they will give you four (I think....might be 5) different scenarios for times. You have to choose one of these, as far as I can tell, but then you can go in and adjust the individual times on each one. The only thing that I found a bit of a hassle, is that you may have to move one of your FPs 'out of the way' (to a time that you don't necessarily want temporarily) to be able to have more options of time, as they won't let you overlap FP times.
