I have a privacy announcment on my facebook--I either have to click for more info or click skip for now. Only--it will not allow me to click "skip for now".

I woudn't think this is odd except that I also have a messge in my e-mail inbox from my earthlink virus blocker:

MESSAGE QUARANTINED

Virus Detected: CMU-10378-20091209

Message Details:
From: "Facebook Support" <change@facebook.com>
Subject: Facebook Password Reset Confirmation. Customer Message.
Date: Wed, 9 Dec 2009 22:17:03 +0000

Did I just get hacked and if so--what the heck do I do?

Thanks.

ETA: I closed the window and the privacy announcement wasn't there when I went back in. I also logged out and logged back in and password was fine. I think I will go change it now.

NOT hacked!!!!

Facebook made an announcement today that they're changing their privacy policy - something to do with giving us more control over who can view our pages, or pictures, or something? I heard it on the radio on my way to work but didn't pay much attention.

But no, it's legitimate.

Great--thanks!

Wonder why the silly button wouldn't work.

It is legit. AND they have reset ALL YOUR SETTINGS! I have had my account set to "only friends" for everything and when that popped up tonight it had reset them to everybody.

Go in and make sure things are set the way you want them.

Nothing changed on my Facebook page. It's still set to my friends only.

Nothing changed on mine either. All my settings were still for "only friends."

 What gets me is that this move that is supposed to help us control our own privacy actually takes some of our privacy away.

I use Facebook just for close family and friends. I don't have any desire to have random people from my past "finding" me. I liked the fact that I could put a picture of my kids as my profile pic and not have that visible to everyone, and I liked having my friends list only available to friends.

Now, you can't make your profile pic and friends lists private; they are ALWAYS available to everyone no matter what. I don't know how this change helps us control our privacy!

If I'm wrong on this and someone can figure out a way to keep your profile pic and friends list private, let me know!

I received that message late last night, and I made the changes they asked for. Now, I can't log back in to FB. Here is the message I get when I am on the first screen:

Access Restricted (Bad IP)
You are trying to access Facebook from an IP (Internet Protocol) address that has been associated with abusive behavior. You may request to have this block lifted from Facebook by contacting us below.
Your email address::
The email address where you can be reached. If you are able to access your login email address, enter that here.
Reason:
Please explain why you think this is an error
Are you using a proxy?: I don't knowYesNo

WHAT does this all mean?? Did someone hack onto my account? I don't engage in abusive behavior, so I can't imagine what is going on?! Did anyone else get this?

IF you got this message in your email, you gave your information to a hacker.

FB does NOT send messages out to emails.

I received the same message and have no been able to get back in, received this message on three different computer, dis anybody else get this and have it resolved??

I got the message on my FB account this morning and it let me Skip For Now. I was only going to be on for a sec before heading to work. I was able to log in without a problem.

I haven't gotten and email or anything.

I came home for my lunch break, and it still isn't working for me! Ughhh. I sent FB a message, but I didn't get a response.

ooo, I got it too...now I'm worried that I was hacked. Darn!

I notice that a lot of people's privacy settings got changed to "Friends only" when they used to be set to "Everyone".

I tried e-mailing Facebook to get this resolved, and this was the standard message I received:
Hi,

The Facebook Team has received your inquiry. We should get back to you soon. In the meantime, we encourage you to review our Help page (http://www.facebook.com/help.php). There, you'll find answers to many common questions.

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

The Facebook Team

What a frustrating situation it is trying to get answers ASAP. Their help page doesn't help with this until you find the link to "if you think you've been hacked, click here". I am now waiting for the FB team to contact me also. At least I'm not alone. Thanks.

This is exactly what happened to my account last night. It was set to everybody and friends of friends. I had to set it back to friends only.
