Another example of liberal elitism

Joe, let me tell you from first hand experience. Bullies and bashers will not care which party you belong to. They wil find another excuse to try to belittle you, and attempt to exert power over you. Just ignore them, they know they are idiots!:o

I found this piece to be very demeaning and condescending. My conservative views aren't derived from a fear of God or what she would call ignorance, to me they come from common sense.

I believe in lower taxes, because the government has no right to my money and no right to redistribute the wealth of this nation to take from those that have earned it.

I believed in pre-emptive strikes, so did FDR when he decided to engage in the European Theatre of WWII. I'd rather fight the evil forces on their turf, thans ours.

I believe in the sanctity of life. I am not gung-ho crazy about stopping stem-cell research or abortions in the first few weeks. But I have a real problem with killing fetuses with beating hearts. Stem cell research to me is fine, I just don't think we oughta be paying it through tax dollars, it is not the government's responsibility. Let private organizations do it.

I believe in higher standards for inner-city children. NCLB is one of the strong points of this nation's recent educational history.

I believe in strong and decisive leadership, where we keep our pants on in the Oval Office, and respect this nation's values. While I don't share all of the values of fellow conservatives, I certainly respect them and would never demean them. I am for gay marriage, but if America is wholeheartedly against it like it seems we are, then I believe it should be banned by whichever states choose to do so.

I will not vote for someone simply because they are a Republican, and I do not call Democrats ignorant nor spew the hate that writers such as Smiley do towards the other side.

How many threads do we need here with the words "liberal elitists" in the title? Are we up to 3 now?

Isn't that a little divisive?! No wonder people around here are so prickly!

Bashing and belittling of those who disagree, those who think like this are very close minded and ignorant:

Isn't that what you are doing? I mean really what is this thread # 4 or 5 that's you've started ripping "liberal elitists" for their opinions.

GWB won, it's over.

Joe--

All due respect, there is plenty (and I do mean PLENTY) of bashing and belittling done on both sides. No one has the market cornered.

And I do agree with ChesireVal--seems to me someone is piling on just a tad. You are entitled to post whatever you want, whenever you want to (with DISboard guidelines) but it certainly gets old fast. Again, with all due respect.

Debbie <------who is a liberal, but does not think she is an elitist.

Joe, do you get some sort of, ummmmmm, personal pleasure out of typing 'liberal elitism?" Does it make you feel reeeeeeeeaaaaaaal goooooooood all over or just in particular places? Have you had a date with a woman lately?

grumpy55 - here's mud in yer eye!

You know, Joe. I don't agree with you on many posts but I'm not here to argue with you on this one. Instead, I thought I'd add a note about what I try to do when I come across something that irritates me as this column seems to have irritated you. I try to ignore it. I definitely don't post links to it or include it in a post. I'm not saying you shouldn't but rather that you may want to consider how you are helping to spread the word of someone with whom you obviously disagree. While you will have people post who are just as outraged as you are, you're also making the article available to people who may find they argree with the views in the article... and may never have seen the article if not for your post.

The Internet is a powerful tool, obviously. Unfortunately, it has so much information that is trash that should be left to molder in obscurity. By sharing it with others if only to deride it, though, you allow that trash to spread where it wouldn't have before.

Again, I want to say that you have every right to post such an article but I did want to share my view of the possible unwanted consequences of doing so.

Liberal, liberal, liberal. Elite, elite, elite.

Drink up folks!:drinking1 :faint:

Well, I do see that this columnist's view is shared by much of the LIBERAL ELITE. Look at some of the other threads on here today. . . how many times do we see the Left share their constant fear of the Religious Right? In fact, many conservatives aren't necessarily religious, and no religious conservative I know personally is uneducated or lacks critical thinking skills. Yet, we see that the media keeps pushing that viewpoint along-- much like the columnist on this thread.

Thanks for sharing this viewpoint that we know exists. . . we've seen it on these very boards.

BTW, I am bothered by the term "liberal elite", as well, and, with the exception of typing it in this post, never use it. I don't think liberals are the elites--despite the beliefs that some of them share that they are. It's just too un-pc to admit, I guess.

I have, on occasion, however, referred to them as both pseudo-intellectuals and pseudo-elites.
