another easy explanation wanted: Fish eye lenses

Another newbie here. Having a great time with my new (well 4 monts) dslr camera. trying to take pictures whenever I get a chance. Thanks for the excellent advive and recommendations.

So next questions.

I signed up for a photography magazine (digital Photography mag) and I see a lot of advertisements for fisheye lenses.

What are they used for?
