a bidding question.

If I put a maximum bid of say $10.00 for something and my current bid is $5.00, does e-bay automatically increase my bid every hr. or something.

I noticed that on one particular item, e-bay increased someone's own bid $1.00, 4 times, before a different person even outbid them.

I don't want e-bay to outbid my own bid.

No this looks confusing in the bids display but when you look at the date and time they really only increased it by the next bid amount until the higher of the 2 is on top.

So your bid will only increase if someone else bids higher .

5.00 they bid 5.50 your goes up to 6.00 if bid increase is .50
if they bid 7.50 yours goes to 8.00

Ebay bid history is confusing. In the following example I (matt99_hockey) had to bid 3 times in order to beat a proxy bid from jimmy citroen. Even though jimmy's bid is only shown once. He put in his max. bid at $17.17 and Ebay only bid on his behave when he was out bid. Ebay will only bid on his behave to his maximum bid entered. Since this is an automatic bid, this is not shown in the bid history, when in fact jimmy had a proxy bid between all of the matt99_hockey bids.
