Another DVC AP discount question

I have already established that I am able to use the 1-day ticket I purchased as part of my package towards the purchase of an AP with the DVC discount. I know that I HAVE to purchase that AP at Guest Services at either one of the parks or at DTD.

However, I want to also order the DDE card and, from what I understand, I need to do that in advance. I can't, however, order that until such time as I have an AP - still with me?

So, my question is, am I able to order an AP at full price (or with the DVC discount from the DVC Members site) and then go to Guest Services after we arrive at WDW and have them REFUND the price of the 1 day ticket against my AP? Is that even possible? Would it be too much 'faffing' about? Is there any way I can get the DDE wihtout having an AP (or AP voucher) in my possession?

Grateful for your help :)

PS Mods, if this is in the wrong place, my apologies :guilty:

When I did this a couple of years ago, I was allowed to order the DDE before picking up the AP. This may have changed now, as the CM said they should be checking both AP and DDE when paying the bill.

You can order the DDE card M-F 8-4 after you get your AP. Do it in the morning and you can have a temp DDE card delivered to EPCOT Guest Relations that afternoon around 5:30PM. Your permanent card will be mailed to your home. :thumbsup2

In my experience, this is the ONLY way to do what you want to do. After you get your AP call the DDE number and give them a cc over the phone and pick up the card later at Epcot (front of Epcot, not the IG).

It is against ticketing policy to give refunds, so you can't order a voucher for a "regular" AP and then exchange it for the DVC-discounted AP and get money back.

Those who suggest calling for the DDE after you buy your AP on site are right - it's really your only option if you want to use the 1 day ticket as a credit towards the DVC-discounted AP.

If you could use a PAP, you might order the regular AP and then upgrade to a DVC disounted PAP. The price is the same for the regular AP and the DVC-discounted PAP, though, so you'd have to keep the 1 day pass for another time.

You could just keep the one day pass and use it to get an AP in the future. As long as you don't use it, a 1 day ticket never expires. If you are arriving on a weekend or late on a Friday, this is the option that I would choose.

Disney tix are non refundable. You may upgrade (with certain limitations) but cannot "downgrade".

Refunding the difference would, in a sense, be a downgrade.

When ordering an AP, will Disney mail it to you, or do you have to pick it up at will call? Or can you purchase it at the front desk like a regular park pass?

You can choose to pick it up at will call or you can have an AP voucher mailed to you. For deliveries to addresses in the USA, it takes about a week for the voucher to arrive. There is a $3 charge for delivery.

No you can't buy an annual pass at the resorts. You have to go to a park or DTD. Be sure to bring your DVC membership card and a photo ID.

ETA: Remember that as soon as you purchase the pass (or exchange your voucher for a pass) the 1-year clock starts. So IMO it's better to wait until you are about to enter a park to get the pass/exchange the voucher.

Oooh good point. So not to sound dense, but say I call today and order my AP and have Disney mail me my voucher. The year does not start until the actual day I exchange the voucher for the pass? Also do you know if there is a will call window at the international gateway entrance? We will be staying at the boardwalk and that would be so convienent. Thanks.:thumbsup2

Similar situation here, I have found a 1 day ticket when searching for something totally unrelated  This was left over from a package and is unused. As its mine and DH doesn`t have one, I plan to order an AP for him by phone and then when we have the voucher he can purchase the DDE. When we get to WDW I`ll upgrade my pass to an AP.
Thats the theory - hope it will work in practice. My old I day ticket will be over 2 years old by then!

Yes, that is correct.

Yes - you can pick up your "will call" AP at any guest relations booth. The ticket booths outside the IG double as guest relations booths. Many have exchanged their vouchers at that location.

Sounds like a good plan! No reason it won't work - the 1 day tickets do not expire until used, so you should be good to go for the credit / upgrade.
