Another Disney Visa onboard credit $

I did this back in February for my entire family. I payed their deposits on my credit card. I was told that for the onboard credit to take effect, that the remainder of the balance needs to be paid off using a Disney Visa card too. So, I have tried to encourage my siblings to get a Disney Visa card because I do not think that I will have a big enough credit limit to pay off 5 staterooms! :earseek:

So far, my mom and dad have their own card and my SIL got hers.

Also, be careful because when I did the deposit, I also had other charges on there from the month. I assumed that once I got to my limit, my card would get a "declined" message back when trying to charge more. It didn't and I went over my credit limit and they charged me a fee for that.

I called them and they removed the fee but it was a little bit of a hassle.

Just thought I would share my experience. :goodvibes

That is great! Thanks for the information!

Can you avoid going over your limit, by making say a $5000 payment a few days before you put the balance of both cruises on your DV?

Do you have to do anything special to get the credit by paying with the DV? We paid our deposit & final payment for our upcoming 11/12 cruise. Will the onboard credit "automagically" appear or should we have done something to make sure it happened? Live & learn??

I would call DCL or your TA (whomever you booked through) and "double check" ;) you will be getting your $50 onboard credit.

No. You can only charge up to your credit limit . When the charges post to the acct and this can take a few days, it will take the overpayment and you can charge up to your available credit.Sorry to give the bad news.

What you can do is charge the amount to secure the room. Then call the charge card and put the $50000.00 down by phone. They will do that if you have a checking account. I actually paid ahead of time on my credit card and had a positive amount

So let's assume I have a credit limit of $4000.

I begin with a $0 balance and call and put down a $5000 payment, then the next week pay for my cruise ($3000) and my sister's cruise ($2500), I should only have a $500 balance, correct?

Would there be any over credit limit fees?

Would I need a few days to pass between paying off the two cruises?

Call DCL and make sure they have code "DCC" on your reservation. That's what gets you the credit.

Thanks! I just called them & they told me that I need to go back to my TA to have her apply the code. I just e-mailed her & hopefully that will work!!

I booked via Dreams Unlimited, and when I paid my final balance, Disney informed DU that you cant get a on board credit when booking through them due to the fact you received a discount already. I think thats bush league and need to research the fine print. I can't believe this and would have booked via my other CC that gets points.

The people at DU were very good about it, and I don't blame them.

Did this happen to anyone else.

I spoke to people both at the cruise line and credit card DV and they said you would recieve it as long as the whole cruise price was on the Visa.

ljt064,
That is an outrage! I booked through DU. I better check to make sure I get the credit. Where does it say you can't get that $50 credit if you receive a discount somewhere else? Grrrr!

I was told the same thing through All Seasons - can't get a discounted rate and the $50 credit. They did tell me that upfront while I was booking, so it wasn't a surprise to me.

REALLY?!?!?! I'm surprised as it apparently has nothing to do with the kind of credit card used, does it? Anyone able to fill me in on this one?

I don't get it either. The one discount is being offered by DU and the other one is by a totally different company, in this case Visa. Neither one has anything to do with the other. If Visa gave a credit it would not effect DU at all. :confused3

I booked 2 rooms through Costco for our cruise 3 weeks ago. Both rooms received the $50 onboard credit.

We were told the credit would not be applied until final payment was received with the DV.

I am booking through cruisingco.com, and my TA also told me the credit wouldn't be issued until the cruise was paid in full on the card. Not a problem, but how do you know if you're getting a "discount rate?" Was it so much cheaper that the non-credit was worth it? Either way, it doesn't really make sense, but I guess they can do whatever they want.
