Today a girl I know who works for a newspaper in Lampasas, Texas said that Disney is planning on building a water park in Lampasas. She said that they just recently got the building permit.
I don't know if this is true. There's always Texas Disney rumors.

I sure hope it happens...

If anything legitimately involves Disney, the news is quickly picked up by local, national, and international media. (It's not just discussed by newspaper employees and their friends.) If there's no press release from Disney, it can take a few days for the media to catch on. But then the news doesn't remain local.

Real estate transfer transactions are public record. And because a building permit for something as big as a water park would involve public hearings, it's unlikely that the approval process would remain a secret, much less ithe actual issuance of a building permit Disney.

I looked up Lampasas, Texas, on a map. At first, it seems like an unlikely location for a Disney project. But I realize the Texas Hill Country is a visitor destination, especially for people within Texas, so Lampasas might not be so far-fetched for something like a Disney resort hotel and water park.

If Disney has only just filed for a building permit, and they only have an option with a land owner, and the Lampasas Dispatch Record has not yet published another edition since Disney filed, then this rumor might turn out to be legitimate news.

In any case, we should know one way or the other within a few days (if there's actually a building permit in process).

That would be cool that they could expand out of the two states
Disney has a DVC resort at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. So that's a third state.

Disney has already announced a resort hotel (including DVC units) at the Ko Olina Resort on Oahu in Hawaii. So that will be a fourth state.

And Disney has told the financial community that they're exploring other locations for regional Disney projects. However, that's likely to mean a hotel and/or DVC units in a location that already attracts family tourism -- not a third Magic Kingdom style park on American soil.

As to the original rumor that started this thread, I think it's safe to say that no building permit was issued to Disney by Lampasas, Texas, for a water park. Otherwise it would be in the news by now.

Yeah, that's true.
Oh well. I was pretty sure it was false.

This is interesting. I suppose the rumor I heard in October from a Disney Store employee that Disney is building a "Downtown Disney" North of Dallas, Texas is also a lot of malarkey.

People get so excited about these rumors. I wish there were a way to check them out for ourselves.

Consider the source. Disney Store employees have absolutely no inside knowledge about unannounced future projects of The Walt Disney Company.

If a Disney Store employee says, "Disney is building a resort hotel on Oahu," you can believe it because it was officially announced to the press and the financial community.

But if a Disney Store employee says, "Disney is building a Downtown Disney north of Dallas," ask yourself how or why that Disney Store employee would have any inside information.

People get so excited about these rumors. I wish there were a way to check them out for ourselves.
With Google, it's easy to see if anything has been announced officially by the Disney Company.

Beyond that, the best you can do is to apply a sanity check to the believability of the rumor. Any rumor that claims that Disney has secretly begun construction somewhere should immediately be considered highly lacking in credibility. Rumors of major new theme parks in North America directly contradict what Disney executives have told the financial community.

On the other hand, rumors that simply say that Disney business managers are exploring a possible project in some location are much harder to dismiss. As I wrote earlier this month, "Disney has told the financial community that they're exploring other locations for regional Disney projects. However, that's likely to mean a hotel and/or DVC units in a location that already attracts family tourism -- not a third Magic Kingdom style park on American soil."
