We are new to DVC and fully intend to make the most of it. In that vein, we are going for at least 16(maybe 17 days) in 2005 so buying a PAP is a no brainer. From the list I've seen the current participating places for the DDE include many that we have eaten at/ or would like to eat at.
But considering the DVC/AP/AAA(they gave us 2005 diamond cards for our 2nd 2004 trip) discounts, will we be spending enough on food over the course of the two 8 day trips to make it worth the additional $50. We haven't stayed at a DVC yet so I don't know how much eating we will do in our room. I'm guessing it will be mostly breakfast, late evening snacks, but if my 76 yo Grandma goes with us again I've promised daily trips back to the resort to relax so maybe we will do lunch there too.(Frankly even if Grandma doesn't go, R&R in the afternoons sounds nice) So one counter service/ table service meal a day, is that consistent with more experienced DVCer's? Thanks.
On a funny side note, I jumped through hoops to get rental points so that I can stay at DVC HHI over my med school Spring Break and was very happy when it came through. I thought that since I was going to be in the SC/GA area I would see if I could visit Eisenhower Medical Center and maybe just have a sit down chat with someone about doing an orthopedic surgery residency, you know maybe just an hour or two of someone's time. Well, they are offering to let me spend three days there including clinic, OR, and academic day time. So I will fly in spend on Sun, go to Eisenhower(by Augusta GA) until Weds and then only spend Thurs and Fri morning at HHI. Unfortunately when I look at my future versus vacation, I rather suspect that much of my trip south will be spent at an Army base outside Augusta. On the bright side, if I really like the program at Eisenhower and it becomes my first choice, I would spend 5 years only 1 state away from either WDW or HHI which would just be unbelievably harsh.
