My DS is 1. For his daycare teachers we are giving them a pizza party. 4 or 5 pizzas will be delivered on Friday and we're taking sodas, plates, cups, etc. This way the teachers in the infant room and the ones in his new class will all get a gift. But there is a teacher in the infant room that goes the extra mile. She has DS for 30 minutes in the morning still until his teacher arrives. If his hair is flat (normally curly) from his hat she fixes it. If he needs ear drops or eye drops (has pink eye right now) she helps me put them in. On his birthday she got him a chicken biscuit (he LOVED it). I would like to give her another individual gift to thank her. But I dont want the other teachers to be upset. Would it be wrong to give her a $5 or $10 gift certificate to Burger King (its the only restaurant near daycare and she gets coffee and biscuits there sometimes)? I can ask her not to say anything.

Are you getting cards for the other teachers? If so, you could just put the gift card into the regular Christmas card for her and no one would realize it. With so many kids and parents, I'm not sure anyone would notice anyway.

I hadnt planned on doing cards. I can. But if I put a gift in her card without telling her to keep it quiet she'll probably comment to the other teachers about it. They are all pretty close. Maybe I would be better off not doing anything?

I would get the card, slip it in, & ask her to not mention it to the other teachers what is inside.

You are very thoughtful & generous to consider this for her.

I personally don't think you need to bother asking her not to mention it to the other teachers, but if you are worried about it, then just slip it into a card, as others have mentioned and then quietly ask her not to tell the others.

Speaking as a daycare provider, If she goes the extra mile for you, then you should give her a little something extra. Don't worry about the other teachers, if she thinks that it will create problems then she won't say anything to them, after all she is the one who is stuck there trying to work with them! Christmas is such a wonderful time to let people know how much you appreciate them. Gift cards are a wonderful thing, you can't go wrong with that!! Merry Christmas!!

I used to be a daycare provider - for three years, and ITA with the above post!

I would just pull her aside and say "I wanted to give you something special because you've treated DS like someone special." That tells her you singled her out without specifically saying "Don't tell the others," which is kind of awkward. I think the GC is a great idea.

I am a provider too. I think it would mean the world to her to know why you wanted to do something special. I love the above post saying,"I wanted to give you something special because you make ds feel special."

You are sweet think of it!

Also, most providers, even those in teams, know when one or the other of us does that little something extra. Generally, we celebrate with one another that extra recognition of how hard we all work. In a card or on its own,I think it will be just fine.

Definitley give the gift and keep it separate. Say something like "I want to give you something a little extra..."

My wife owns a daycare center and buys holiday gifts for all 18 employees, but since 4 of the teachers actually have my kids in their class, she buys them something extra and gives it to them separately from the other teachers.

Giving gifts can be especially tricky since some teachers may only see the child for 1 hour a day and some for 8 hours, depending on the teachers shifts.
