Another credit card pmt question

Thought I would check here to see if this has happened to any experienced DIS'ers before I called reservations..........

On 3/17 I booked two rooms at RPR at the seasonal rate of $364.50 (total) on 3/20 they charged my CC for only one room. Since then, we got AAA and I called back to have our discount applied. Each room total is now $255.15
I thought they would reverse the first charge and charge us at the new rate, but they didn't. Soooo, my question is, will I need to tell them I want both rooms charged to my card so they will only charge the balance of the total cost? We had planned on my room being paid and my sister paying for her room when we got there. But that would make my room have a credit (if that makes sense )

What do you think would be the best thing to do? Thanks!!

i think i know what you are asking.

i had paid the one night deposit when i booked my ressie before.
once the discounts came out, i modified my reservation to the new rate.

i was not issued any credit to my cc when i did that.
my cc was charged the original amount when i booked 10 months in advance.
the change of rate was on my file at the hotel.
i ended up paying less when i checked out as i "over paid" when making the deposit.

just put money aside for the total cost of your room and clear the bill when you check out.


don't have them reverse the charge now.
go with the flow and just keep it as it is that you have paid more than required in advanced since you modified your room rate.


next part of your question:

pay for the rooms when you check out. you can pay for both rooms, they don't care as long as one of you are responsible for the charges

when you check in, you need to put a cc down for holding purposes.
if you are the owner of the cc, you can use your cc for both rooms.
that will be the card that is used to clear your account at the hotel when you check out.


do you both have the AAA?

i know if you have the AP, you can book one room.
if you need 2 rooms, there has to be a AP holder in each room for the discount. (talking adults here)

at one time it was the same way for the AAA discount. one room per discount card.

if you are the only AAA holder for both rooms, maybe that policy has changed.


the onsite hotels do not require for the rooms to be paid in full before you check in. only a one night stay is required for the reservation/

if you want to prepay the entire room cost before you check in to the hotel, you need to call the hotel and be connected to the bookkeeping department.

that is who would set up the payment plan.
it is not encouraged by the hotel but they will work with you if this is your desire.

you could always put the money you planned to prepare your hotel bill into travelers checks instead. use those checks to clear your hotel bill then

Reading back over my original question, I see I left out one important fact which would have made it make more sense

The "how will this work" came up due to the fact we are only staying one night. That makes my original deposit more $$ than the final cost of the room. I think that leaves me with paying for BOTH rooms and then having my lil sis cough up the cash for their room........ which I will turn around and use to eat at City Walk Yep, as you pointed out, it will be easier to settle it all up at check-out.

As for the AAA discount, one room is in my name and one room is in my husbands name. We both have AAA. I have me, sis and son registered in one room and then hubby, BIL and nephews in the other room. I did anticipate that we would need AAA for each room........ got that part right!! haha

Also, probably TMI here, but the CC I used and will be using has no balance and a high limit, so I am not worried about budgeting the cost of the two rooms........ but I really appreciate you pointing it out along with offering a great solution. You are one of the reasons I love this board so much!

no, you are okay with the AAA cards then.

when you sign up for the AAA membership, it goes in that person's name.
they can add more drivers that are under 24 on that account.

i pay $10 each year for the ones i added to my account.
they have their names on the card even though it is the same account.
therefore, you should not have any problems getting both rooms for the AAA discount. you are good to go for that. you have an AAA card holder in each room.

since you have an overcharge for the room on your cc, don't fret.
when you check in to the hotel, you will be asked if you want charging privileges. say yes.

when you check out, all charges for room, purchases on your room key, meals on your room key, etc will be totaled.

you would pay the difference of what was paid on your account prior to the check in to the time you check out.

if i had it correct, you should have $110 for a credit per room when you check in.
therefore, if you don't have charges that exceed the $220 for both rooms on your bill when you check out, you will be issued a credit on that credit card then.

now, if this is a cc that you only use for vacations and don't use it but once a year, you'll just be carrying a credit until you do use that cc again.

don't forget to take the AAA card with you into the parks.

you will get a 10% discount on food and merch that you buy there.
city walk for the most part also honors the AAA for the discount.

same for HRC.....


you have to show your card to get the discount.
some TM's will copy the last 4 digits and some don't.
if they do, don't worry. that happened to me at circus mcgurkus and i talked to a supervisor there about it. was told it was to verify the club location.

We will actually only have the credit of $110 since they only charged for one room at the old rate. Since we will be there Christmas day and the parks close at 8pm, we can easily spend this for dinner and then some, since there are 7 of us!!

Will definitely bring the AAA card with us for discounts. Every bit helps and I never remember to use it at home

oh...... any "hints" about rental cars is appreciated!! Right now we have a compact reserved at Dollar using the Magic Card rate (we have the physical card to show) for $315 total for 9 days (Dec 24 - Jan 2) pick up & drop off at MCO. Another family member driving their own car will need to pick up 2-3 of us to get from US to our Villa in Davenport. Unless we can get a good rate on a mini-van or choose to use a car service for the one trip. Details, details

if you are using dollar for the car you have now, should i assume you are flying into MCO and wish to rent at the airport and not off the airport?

Yes, we fly into MCO Dec 24 arriving 10:50 am. We fly back out Jan 2 in the morning, so we would get the car at the airport and return it there also.

I have AAA and we are AARP members, but their codes haven't helped much.
Also, belong to Sam's Club. Need to see what they have, but again it hasn't been great.

This will be the last time I travel to Orlando at Christmas! The cost is incredible But time with my family from CT for vacation is, of course, Priceless!!
