I'll be anxiously awaiting your impressions!
Thanks! We had a fantastic time at both restaurants. I think that I definitely preferred the atmosphere at Bluezoo. The dim lighting, stylish decor and quieter dining room make for a pretty cool experience. The only thing I didn't like is that our table had me seated on a bench seat that ran the length of multiple tables. It's not very intimate to share a bench with patrons at the next table over. I prefer to be able to ignore my neighbors while having dinner. Lessons learned, I guess. Next time we'll probably ask to take our meal in the lounge.
Flying Fish has an open kitchen and is therefore noisier and has a more casual feel. I know people always talk about how one should dress up for a signature dinner, and I too feel more comfortable overdressed than under. But I think I would be happy in that restaurant wearing anything that would be acceptable on a golf course. That is to say, a shirtdress or nice shorts, a polo shirt and sneakers would not be out of place here. If you want something a little more casual, Flying Fish is the better bet.
As far as the food goes, my boyfriend and I each had similar dishes at both restaurants and both preferred what we had at Flying Fish. That actually surprised us a little as we thought the Flying Fish menus looked somewhat pretentious while planning for these meals. Now we know better. The dishes there are made of quite capable creativity, not pretension. And our desserts there a caramelized banana Napoleon and a pear crème brûlée were possibly the best of the whole trip.
I do have to give Bluezoo a nod for great appetizers, though. Their New England clam chowder far exceeded my expectations and my boyfriend loved his shrimp and grits. Bluezoo also wins in wine selection, which I see is a requirement for your party.
Both restaurants gave us attentive service, though I didn't really care for either of our servers' personalities. Our waiter at Flying Fish was very stiff and formal. On the contrary, the man who served us at Bluezoo was practically a cartoon character. But both were experienced, knew the menus well, were able to advise us, and made themselves scarce after doing so, which we like.
All in all, I must agree with the others. You can't go wrong with either meal. I think the best thing to do is look over the menus, which change pretty frequently according to season, and see what stands out to you.
