Another Christmas gift advice question: 10 year old girl

Ok, here's another dilema I am facing regarding Christmas gifts this year. DS (and DH) really want a Nintendo Game Cube for Christmas and Santa's probably going to bring it. Now the dilema...what "big gift" do I get DD10 if DS gets the Game cube. DD10 has a million wishes and wants and I have no trouble picking out things for her, the problem is that if he gets one really "big" thing, I need a "big" thing for her too and there isn't one that I can really think of...nor can she, I've asked her about her wants already. Should she just get "more" stuff? This won't seem fair to DS as he doesn't understand that the gamecube costs $150 versus items which only cost $10 or $20. what to do, what to do?

So, how would you handle this? Does anybody have a really great $75-$150 item which I could surprise DD10 with? Something she doesn't even know she wants but which she would really like?

Thanks for any input!

Hmmmmmmm. Does she like dolls? How about one of the Disney or Barbie collector dolls? :D They are beautiful! There are tons of them out there she might like!

along the lines of saffrom's idea -- how about an american girl doll? :)

How about a new bike? Tonight, at the library,I was looking in a magazine. They had the hotest toys for this season and for the 10-12 age group they had a kid's pin-ball machine that they said was going to be a big hit this year. I can't remember the name of the pin-ball machine though:confused: Would she possibly be interested in a karoke machine?

TC:cool:

American Girl doll would be an excellent choice. And all the accesories they have are so cute! A new cataloge just arrived here yesterday, they have the cutest twin dolls in it.

Does she like to sing? I got my niece the MTV karaoke machine cuz she loves singing....I got the smaller of the two versions which is around $80, but then they have a fancier one for about $200.

My neice is 10. She is sort of weaning out of her AG dolls, but she does still like them.

She is turning into a true pre teen. She likes makeup, music, movies, etc.... although she does enjoy playing games on the computer as well.

I like the idea of a kareoke machine or a nice stereo system. My SIL also let her pick up new stuff for her room (ie bedspread, curtains, etc...) since the stuff was a little juvenille.

Now my neice has a nice more current room, Im not sure if they included painting the room or not., but she got to pick out what she liked.

Well I have an 11yo dd and I would say do not buy toys. They just are out of the age of not playing with them. Last year I did buy a few toys and it really was a waste of money. I say buy something that matches the game system.
Karaoke machine
Stereo, a real one.. not a boom box (I vote for this)
Mall Gift Certificate (150 bucks for clothes/makeup/shoes is alot of fun for a girl)
A few of my relatives got her gift certificates and she had a great time shopping.
Portable cd player with cd's
Good Luck! I fear next year because I don't know what I'm going to do.

BTW When we buy the gaming system it is to the family. That way I don't have to balance out anything. (I have PS2 in my closet with Kingdom Hearts...ssssh:) ) Yea its for them, yea that's it.
