I need your advice!

Two weeks ago, the flights offered out of Moncton,NB were great, affordable, cheaper than flying out of Portland. Long story short, we are ready to buy and all the flights have changed. The only affordable flights out of Moncton are from Sun-following Wed, so 9 full days in DW, 10 nights. We never thought of staying this long but are considering it. Between the difference of flying out of POrtland (which is still more $$) we'd rather put the difference into DW and not Portland. Also, doing portland and 7 nights in DW puts our vacation at 9 nights anyway.
Question is, should we go for it and get these tickets now, or do you think any more 'deals' will be coming out between now and september? Right now it's around $430 a seat (4 of us)
We live 2 min drive from the airport so it would be SO nice not having to drive to Portland since we've done it the past 3 years, novelty has worn off.

I have a feeling we won't get any cheaper between now and then, but I just don't know.

We weren't in a position to buy 2 weeks ago.

Our rule of thumb is that anything under $400 for out of YHZ means we aren't driving to PWM:thumbsup2

And we're a 3 hour drive to YHZ.

So a 2 min trip to YQM, for an extra $30pp in my opinion is a straight up BOOK IT:cool1::cool1::cool1:
Spend the extra 2 days at Disney...and have a Mickey Bar for me! LOL!!

HTH!!
:)

I would book it simply because I have been looking at prices for May and August Canada vs US and can tell you that the USA prices are much higher then they have been the past 4 years and are NOT going down the closer I get to the dates. Right now, flights from Montreal for August (2hours away from home) are only $20 more then Syracuse( 3 hours away) I'll pay the extra $20 and drive an hour less any day.

Actually I am litterally thinking driving down with my girls. we have a 24 hour drive to do and it will cost around $700 at the most including hotel vs aifare which would be $1700

I had a surprise when I woke up this morning, Continental flights (i know specifically for end of Sept) had dropped! I had received an email from continental stating cheap Florida fares, but saw nothing last night. This morning, $313 a seat (plus tax!)

So I booked 4 seats for around $1650! Plus I had a 10% off one seat so I saved $30 there too.

Check Continental! We are doing 7 full days in DW and I am SOOOO EXCITED!!!! :dance3:

 woohoo! Continnetal is my choice of airlines. We try to fly them when we go.
I booked on Continental Seattle-Florida for my August flights a few months ago. When I see a seat sale I grab it. Often you can get good fares booking early.
then they start creaping up. We got $319 RT :)

I had to say, i got confused with you talking of flying from Portland, I was thinking why would she fly from Portland, Or :confused3 Till I realized there must be one in Maine

We booked our flights on AC out of YHZ for Sept. 28 and got them for $143 per person (one way), which came to a total of 1190 for the 5 of us with taxes, fees, or whatever else they tack on! lol It's at $242pp to fly back so we haven't booked that one yet. I did check Moncton when I was looking, but it was close enough in price not to warrent the extra driving for us to get to Moncton. It's a gamble, they could drop, but they could increase too. We found it was cheaper to book two one way trips than one round trip, so you could try pricing it that way too.

The last time we booked Continental we had to pay an additional fee for baggage ($25 per person each way). Make sure to consider this "hidden" cost as well

Thank you very much for bringing this up! But yes, I am aware of the fee. :) Air Canada's fares were significantly more and West Jet was beyond those of AC's. So the $25 lugguage fee still works out to be cheaper. :)

I am so excited to be flying out from home. Will be a super quick taxi ride to get there and back. Far better than 7 hour drive to Portland (MAINE:laughing:) and the extra 2 nights in cheap hotels in Maine. Oh it's going to be so nice!
Last year we hit a deer on the way down to Maine. Bad bad bad.

That's great that you have your flight booked and you get to fly from so close to home, which is so much easier:banana:

I have been watching flight prices on AC and Westjet for the last while. They are not great that is for sure.

Does anyone know if Continental flies out of Halifax?

I have no idea what airlines fly out of Halifax other than the two i mentioned above.

I don't like much of what I have heard about Air Transat and when I try to check flights for Sept. they have nothing. Do they not book that far ahead?

I might check out Moncton though. I have never used that airport but I am about an hour from Halifax and probably an hour and a half or so from Moncton so it might be worthwhile if it is cheaper. I do have to go through Toronto though because we will be meeting my mom there.

Right now a round trip flight for 5 of us would run me around $3,000 if not more, it all depends on what day I check. Definitely would like to get that cheaper. That is the most expensive part of our trip.

Anyone have any pointers? I don't have definite travel dates as we are hoping and praying for fd. We plan to go from around August 29th or so till Sept. 7 or 8. Whatever would make it 10 nights and 11 days.

We use www.kayak.com

When you register, you can put in flexible dates.
Easy fare finder:thumbsup2

Another good one is www.airfarewatchdog.com
Put in your city pairs, and you'll get email alerts when fares drop.

HTH!! and congrats on getting your flights!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We just locked in one way 5 people from Portland, ME to Orlando cost $750 (which is what I paid for the same flights in 2009 Return!!!) Still waiting on MCO to PWM ...with the gas prices, I was getting jittery, now we HAVE to go!!
