Hi - I posted this a few weeks ago but only got one brief response. We are traveling on the 11/30 Wonder 4 day with a stop in Freeport.

My dd(12), DS(11) and dh and I would like to do 2 different excursions - snorkeling and glass bottom boat.
Which is the best glass bottom boat - I saw that you can do it from Freeport, Nassau and CC. I have heard that they ar enot worth the money - what do you think?

All 4 of us would like to snorkel. We have never snorkeled before. We do not want to do it all day but a nice intruduction to it with some good sights of fish would be great. We can do it several different ways at all 3 ports. I have heard that we should purchase our own equipment instead of renting - that is not going to happen. Where and what should we do? Help!

We have also decided to tour Atlantis on our own - so we do not get bogged down with others. Is this a good idea?

Thanks for all your help,
Linda

I'll answer because I know how lonely it is to get no one answering your posts!

I've never done the glass bottom boat, so I can't help you there. I don't think that's offered at CC though.

As to snorkling, we did it on Grand Cayman (which won't help you). The reason people suggest bringing your own is germs. You can get pretty cheap sets at the normal discount stores like Target and Wal Mart. I think I paid less for my kids mask and snorkles than the cost of an excursion rental at CC. They didn't have the fins though. If you do snorkle at CC, they require you to wear a float vest which they will provide for free.

The CC excursion price is to rent the gear. The snorkling trail is free. I have heard that it gets pretty murky later in the day, so I'd suggest you go early.

Hope this helps.

it seems that CC is pretty good for snorkeling. Haven't done a Bahamian cruise/trip before, wish I could give you more info on Nassau or the Bahamas @ snorkeling. Since you haven't snorkeled before, which by the way is really easy and relaxing, I would probably wait and do it on CC, which would be cheaper then an excursion, even at $25 rental (was that a run-on sentence or what).
Unless you are going to be vacationing again next year and you know you'll snorkel again, I wouldn't worry about having your own equipment.
Lisa is right, you want a clear day, with lots of sun shine. And one snorkeling pointer - don't try to stand/walk in the water. If you relax and let yourself float on top of the water (you can use a life vest or float) it's so easy. Oh yeah, and don't forget the sun screen.
