Yay! Congrats!
I'm not a fertile Myrtle. It took us 8 months to get DS. I was on the pill for 6 years. I always knew the pill wasn't safe, but after that, I swore it off. At 24, I should've been way fertile instead of struggling to conceive.
from what I've read, the pill thins your uterine lining, so it's harder to conceived if you've been on it a long time. I was on the pill from about 20yo to 27yo, knowing we wanted to try for a baby around 29 - 30yo's. So I went off about 2 years before I wanted to conceive. That's when I had my 2 misses (but got pregnant 1st try). Then I went on progesterone, which thickens the lining, and had my 2 children. Don't know how 'scientific' that all was, or just the roll of the dice, but it made perfect sense to me.
I'm back on the pill at 43yo now, OB says I can stay on it until to go into menopause.

But another OB in the same office recommended the pill after my last appt when I asked about birth control, because condoms just weren't cutting it. She immediately said the pill, I told her the other doc in the office said no way years ago, she knew right away which doc that was, said he was old fashioned in his thinking about that (as long as you have no other health issues that could cause complications w/ it). I was a little leery, but went on. Then on a doctor-radio show, they were talking about pre-menopause, and this OB said they're having great success putting women in their 50's back on light birth control pills right up until menopause, so that made me feel better (hearing it from 2 sources). For anyone who's ob immediately says no to the pill after a certain age, getting a second opinion couldn't hurt if you've had no prior problems w/ the pill, don't smoke, regular blood pressure, etc. My OB even likes it for the fact it lowers your chance of uterine cancer.
