We've Got a Match! And a Straight-Ahead One-Way Sale to Boot! Two More Domestic Airfare Sales

Allow us to introduce you to two more domestic airfare sales coming your way just in time for summer vacation. The first is an offer from US Airways matching (we love it when they compete) Southwest's companion rate special of $30 one-way (which we told you about a few days ago). One passenger pays the regular economy fare on either US Air or Southwest, and the second traveler pays only $30 each way, based on round-trips only. The second promotion on the table is a straightforward one-way sale from Air Tran, that little airline from Coca-Cola and CNN city, Atlanta.

A companion rate is only worth it if the full-price coach fare is reasonable, and in the case of US Air, they are. The first passenger in a Manchester, NH, to Tampa flight, for example, pays $350 roundtrip. With the second paying $60, that comes to $410 total before airport taxes, or $205 per person, not bad at all. For coast-to-coast flights like Albany to Phoenix, Buffalo to Los Angeles, or Providence to San Diego, the first passenger pays $376, so the two-person total is $436, or only $218 each plus airport taxes. These are just sample prices. Plenty of other cities are included.

Of course, we're assuming you and your traveling companion are going to split the prices evenly between you, like an honest and fair person would. If you're not too good friends with your traveling companion, you can have him or her pay the full price and you tote along for only $60 roundtrip. We don't condone such activity, of course, but it is an option.

The $30 companion fare is only valid for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Saturdays--the awkward travel days when fewer passengers tend to fly. It'll cost you a bit more to board a flight on other days of the week. Companion rate tickets are good throughout the summer and must be bought by June 11.

Another summer airfare sale, also scheduled to end on Monday, June 11, has been announced by one of the smaller carriers, Air Tran. The airline calls Atlanta its home hub, and is usually good for better than average prices. In the instance of this sale, Delta has matched most of Air Tran's roundtrip prices into or out of 'Hotlanta, but Air Tran's sale is good for one-way flights, a rarity among many of the bigger carriers.

Sample One-Way Fare Sale Prices:

Atlanta to Boston $85
Atlanta to Orlando $70
Atlanta to Savannah/Hilton Head $39
New York (La Guardia) to Miami $95
Philadelphia to Orlando $75
Toledo to New Orleans $75
Orlando to Dayton $75
Houston (Hobby) to Buffalo $104
Washington (Dulles) to Dallas/Fort Worth $109
The Air Tran prices are good originating in either city. There are a few dates throughout the summer that are blacked out at these prices: June 29 and 30, July 8, August 31, and September 3. A seven-day advance purchase is required, and all travel must be completed by October 3. Call Air Tran at 800/AIR-TRAN or go to www.airtran.com (click on "Specials") to find out more or make reservations.

The US Air companion sale requires a seven-day advance, and is good for travel up through October 26. For more information, check out the US Airways Web site at www.usairways.com and click on "Companion" under the "Promotions" heading. Or call US Airways reservation line at 800/428-4322. Airport taxes, if applicable, are not included in the prices above.

Beverly,
The $70 from Atlanta to Orlando sounds good. Have you ever flown with AirTran? I'm just a little worried about booking with them.

I just went to their site and it gives a rate of $66 as an Internet special. Does this mean that it's an e-ticket?

Thanks for the tip, Beverly! I called US Air to get a rate from Detroit to MCO and that sale does not apply to those markets. Oh well..just thought I could squeeze another trip to WDW in!

Hi Beverly Lynn,

Will US Air rebate me the difference in vouchers if I already have tickets?

Last time I tried to do that, I called, and they were EXTREMELY helpful. That is ,until they told me that rate doesn't apply to my flight.LOL!

So, this must sound stupid, but, if I paid $198.00 rt per ticket for 4 tickets, I would be getting about $280.00 back in vouchers?

I am exactly 2 weeks out, will that be a problem?

Just trying to cover all bases!

Thanks in advance!
Lauren:D

did you book on the itnernet or on the phone with usair? if you booked on line you have to call the 800 nbr associated with the websight if you called usair then just call 1-800-428-4322 and have them reprice your currant itinerary and see if you have qualifying flights. if so then yes they will give you the refund voucher.

if the flt you want isn't in there yet keep calling back. they are still loading some fares in as I type this. the more airlines that jump into the sale the more fares they will put in.

Bummer-
They said that they do not have a companion fare in that market.

Oh well, worth a shot! Thanks!
