Another ? about adding extra adults, somebody Please!

I'm confused, so help me if anyone can

I understand it's wrong to have more people than the room allows. Like 6 in a room that holds 4

But is it wrong to say you have 2 adults, and 2 children, if you really have 3 adults and 1 child.

I just want to know, because you wouldn't be exceeding the rooms limit. I guess I just don't understand why disney charges for an adult and not a child. the room fits 4 why the extra charge if more than 2 adults

I'm just curious and won't run into this problem

That's basically what I was saying. It seems that people are confusing two different issues--reporting an adult as an adult and possibly paying an extra room charge (or listing them as a child) and sneaking more people into a room than what it is suposed to hold.

To answer the OP's question - do not add the extra adults to your room until you get there or they arrive. Often, disney does not even charge you additional fees when you do this. My mother in law was joining us for 3 nights in the middle of our stay. We were at disney in between hurricanes in September. Our dates were changed due to the hurricane and at the last minute my MIL was able to join us. When I checked in at WL, I simply told the CM that my MIL was joinging us later in the week for 3 nights. He gave us a key card for her and added her name but there was no additional charge. I can't say for certain that this is the way it always goes, but I am sure that if you call reservations and add the extra people now they will certainly charge you and since you don't know for certain whether they are coming or not it doesn't benefit you to add them to your reservation ahead of time.

I always find it interesting when other posters respond about how they have extra people in the room without having their names on the reservation. The best comments are always from those who believe that Disney gets enough of their money so it won't hurt Disney if we squeeze 5 people in a room with a max of 4 OR only put two adults on the reservation when there are 4 staying in the room. This to me is like justifying stealing a Mickey Mouse pencil at the gift store because you spent lots of $ in there already on souveniers. Honesty is the best policy and I think it is important for adults to always set a good example for the children concerning this. I know that there will always be people who try and sneak one by Disney and it doesn't bother me - or does it? Are room rates at Disney inflated to make up for this going on? Hmmm....

We always wait until we get there to add adults. Often times we are not charged and they still get keys. Once in a while we are charged, and I just figure it as part of the cost of our vacation. We'll use more towels (yup, the adults in our party use more than the kids), and, well, just because. While I may reuse a mug that they say I could reuse..I won't lie..either about if I got that mug this trip, or how many adults are in the room.

Plutofreak did say they sneak additional people in without telling the front desk, not that they counted adults as children. By the way, I never thought firefighters would run door to door to do a head count before fighting a fire, I just meant in a real disaster supposing everyone dies (God forbid!) afterwards there would be nobody to tell officials how many had actually been there. I guess their families at home could hope the ones unaccounted for had gotten out and were hopefully alive somewhere.

All this is up to each person and if you think what you do is right, go for it, but I just want to do what I think is right which is to add them to my reservation if I know for sure they will be there. I just wanted to make sure it would be OK to do it at checkin if necessary. Sorry I started such a debate!

Yep, sometimes the most innocent question starts a debate! I think all of the Disney obsessed people have too much energy and need to do something more worthwhile with their time. Off to clean the kitchen...

I would say don't add the extra adults until check-in. A few times we've had an extra adult for two nights of a six day stay and they didn't charge us anything. I think it all equals out in the end, this year we have 3 rooms with only 5 adults. I know we can combine them and save some money but it is just not as comfortable. Another thing, Disney didn't say I'd save any money on the room for 1 adult, same price as two even though they'll be fewer towels and less housekeeping.

I always like to let them know at check-in if we'll be having more than two. I want to make sure if something happened, God forbid, a fall, accident etc. that they would be covered for insurance purposes. Although, one time a friend of my sons who goes to school in Florida came to see us. They went out to the MK and stayed up half the night talking then but he was too tired to drive home so he just slept over. I didn't find out until the next day but didn't feel guilty since Disney has had tons of our money.

Just another thought that I'm sure I'll be flamed for.
I always try to reuse those mugs. They were good forever when we bought them so if I can I reuse them. It's just a matter of principal, since packing them is a bit of a pain.
