12/1 – Animal Kingdom

Cast Members:
Me (38) – Many, many trips to WDW since 1972 and love it more each time!
DH (39) – Plays along with my obsession
DD (8) – 3rd trip and learning to love it as much as me!

We started the day out today at Captain Cooks – it was chilly but sunny so we grabbed some breakfast and ate outside – I love this little area outside of Captain Cooks.

We hopped a bus to Animal Kingdom and arrived about 9:30. Not too crowded so we began to make our way around the park beginning in Dinoland. We grabbed a FP for Dinosaur and took a couple of spins on the spinning roller coaster (I’m blanking on the name). We love Dinosaur – not sure why but we do! We took the bridge from Dinoland to Asia and got a great view of Expedition Everest – they were even testing some of the trains. I can not wait for this to open – we are roller coaster lovers. It looks like it will be very well themed and classic Disney. Even though it was chilly we had to take a ride down Kali River – Abby loves this ride and wanted to do it again as soon as we got off. We had lucked out and not gotten too wet and I didn’t want to press our luck so we talked her out of a return trip. We did the jungle trek and watched the Flights of Wonder bird show – this is a great little show if you’ve never seen it. We caught It’s Tough To Be A Bug (LOVE this show!) and grabbed some lunch at Flame Tree. We took the train back to Conservation Station where Abby could have spent the rest of the day if we let her. She was fascinated by the area where they show you how they take care of the animals. She got to meet Pochohantus and Rafiki and even liked looking at all of the bugs they have on display. We took the train back and went on Safari and the Pangani Forest Exploration trail. We saw the Pocahontas show which we had never seen before – cute little show but don’t know if I’d go out of my way to do it again.

We had a 6:00 ADR at Cape May Café so we hoped a bus to the Beach Club and arrived around 5:15. We spent some time walking on the beach and taking pictures of the Christmas decorations at the BC. The gingerbread carousel they have on display here is amazing! We went down to Martha’s Vineyard Lounge and had a drink while waiting for our ADR time. We were seated promptly at 6:00 (the lobby was full of people waiting – not sure if they had ADRs or were walk ups but it was packed).

Ok – this is the one meal during our trip that we were really disappointed in. I know it gets mixed reviews on the boards but we’ve always had great experiences here. I grew up on the jersey shore and miss my steamed clams. While the CMC steamed clams aren’t the best they’ve always managed to provide me with a “fix”. We ate here a year ago and were very pleased. But, they’ve changed the buffet in the past year….it really feels buffetish (I know that’s not a word but I don’t know how else to describe it) now. Everything is served on platters – no more chaffing dishes with warmers. They have about ½ of the salads they used to have. And the food looked like it had been sitting there a while. The choices just didn’t seem as vast – even the dessert bar has been scaled down. This has been a must do for us for years but it’s coming off our list. For the money I think we will try 1900 Park Fare for dinner next time. It is only a few dollars more and the menu looks much more upscale. I know CMC is a clambake and informal but it just wasn’t a great experience for us this year. Just not impressed.

After dinner David was wiped out but Abby and I still had some energy so David went back to the room and Abby and I walked over to Epcot. We took a ride down the River de Tiempo and did some shopping and looking at Christmas lights. It was EMH at Epcot and by this time the concourses were packed. We decided to call it a night and head back to the Poly. We arrived about 10 minutes before the holiday wishes were going to start for MVMCP. We sat on the little bench at the end of the marina and had a perfect view of the fireworks. We could make out the music – I think if we had been closer to the pool/beach it would have been louder – and the show was so great. It was a really nice way to end our day.

I am very picky about seafood as we come from Maine......I have never gone to Cape May for that reason......thanks for your input too......you sound like you had a great day and WE TOO love Dinosaur............My husband and I do it a few times and usually have fun watching for the photos at the end of the ride....thanks again for your report

Ohhh - the pics...we have so much fun with those. My husband knows just when the pic is taken and poses like he is having a heart attack - eyes rolled back, hands to the chest, tongue hanging out. :crazy2: ..then we sit back and watch people point and say "look at that guy!!"....I bought one and it sits on my desk at work - always good when i need a chuckle!

Believe me, I pray that no one has a REAL heart attack on any ride, but he is so animated it is very obvious he is kidding - it just takes people looking at the pics a few seconds to figure it out!! :)
