Me and my partner are visiting in October from the UK. We have already booked our hotel (5 nights) and tickets for 21 days through the Disney website.

It seems to work out cheaper to become a passholder as we'll be offsite for 15 days and the parking will come to $300 just for this.

We bought our tickets for £350 each (about $440) - The pass we're after is $779.

If we were to become passholders, will they refund our original park tickets?

Also, if only 1 of us were to become an AP, could we still get free parking or would they be required to scan both our bands?

I've tried to have a look online but can't seem to find much.

You can upgrade to an annual pass but they typically don't do refunds on tickets unless it's canceling a package within the cancellation period. Only one AP is needed in the car to get free parking.

you can upgrade your tickets, Disney will deduct the Value from the AP and you will pay the difference, upgrading only can be done at guests services and ticket booths at the parks
only one AP holder needed to get the benefits of free parking and discounted merchandise and restaurants also you can take advantage of AP room only discounts IF you buy your tickets and upgrade to AP before check in, think about it

Thank you.

We booked our package with free dining. If we were to upgrade, are we no longer valid for the free dining?

It really depends on the package you booked. Free dining packages usually require at least 1 day of park passes as part of it. The way I would tackle this is leave it as is assuming the onsite stay is at the beginning of your trip. After the 1st day, you can upgrade the ticket(s) to APs and it will not affect the package at that point.

correct! once you check in get into the park and after go to guest relations and upgrade

Also, there are great AP discounts on dining, the gift shops, tours, etc. so you can save even more money than just the free parking.

You can upgrade one person and still receive the discounts for your party when you're together. This is what I do with my family of 5. I'll have an AP while the others will keep their X-day passes. An AP for everyone wouldn't make sense since we won't be back within the next year. The discounts I'm eligible to receive will more than make up for the cost of the upgrade.

That's my take on it too. Right now I'm planning on making a return in trip in the fall, or early spring next year at the latest, but even if things don't work out and I don't make it back, the discounts will certainly help make up the cost of the upgrade.
