I'm still trying to figure out if it would make financial sense to get APs either before or during our August/September 2010 trip. We have 3 adult and 1 child 8 day park hoppers added on our package. We also have a December 2010 trip booked with 3 adult and 1 child 5 day park hoppers added on. We probably will go back August 2011.

We have AKL CL booked for August/September and GF RPC booked for December, all during value season. We also usually either do the dining or deluxe dining plan (we like to prepay our food).

So AP and Disney experts, would you buy APs if you were me?
I know that we can get an AP room and dining plan package, but would we be able to AP rates for AKL CL or GF RPC? Would free dining make more sense than just saving $$$ on park tickets?

At deluxe resorts, an AP discount is generally a much better deal than free dining. This past August/September, the discount was about 40% off the room rate (assuming the discount is available for your dates & room type - AKL CL is very hard to get on discount).

But you don't need to decide now. You can wait until the AP room discounts come out, apply the discount to your packages if possible, and then buy the AP. You don't have to have it in hand to book. And people on DIS are very helpful when it comes to looking up availability and costs for those who are thinking about buying an AP.

Thanks so much!

One other question: Can you book a bb if you're an AP holder? Or do you just have to buy 1 day base tickets for everyone?

It depends on the bounceback offer. I had one from January that was a room-only bounceback, so I didn't have to buy a ticket, but I could have added the dining plan if I so desired.

If the bounceback requires that you book a package, you may have to buy the 1 day ticket, but that requirement will be spelled out in the bounceback.

Thanks again :goodvibes

If the AP is equal or cheaper in price then the combination of all the tickets you are planning on buying then definitely, if not then look at maybe having one or two of you buying an AP, this way you can still get the AP rates.
