Annual Passes- When is it activated?

I have never purchased a US annual pass. Am I able to purchase it now, but not activate it until we get to the park in about 6 months? Or is it effective from the date it is purchased?

We live in the UK and have bought an annual pass, it doesn't activate until the first time you use it, we have been paying monthly for the past 4 months and will only be using it for the first time on September 22nd.

So, it doesn't matter when I purchase it or pick it up. It is only activated when I first use it. Great! Thanks.

This is true unless it's a special deal going on for the AP. If so, the AP will have a date that auto activates regardless if you've activated it at the gates or not. Make sure you don't have a special deal for the pass. If in doubt, just call Guest Services and they will tell you.
