have a AP through DVC. If I don't renew, will i be out of luck in purchasing a new one later on

If you don’t renew you won’t be able to purchase a new one until they open up sales again. Who knows when/if that is going to happen, Disney certainly isn’t in a rush to do so.

Until Disney begins selling new passes again, renewing an active pass within the prescribed window is the only way to maintain that form of admission.
