Annual Pass Upgrade?

Hi everyone! We have a trip planned for August 3-13. Was planning on purchasing 10 day MYP with park hoppers for us (we will hit a park everyday of trip and like to park hop at the end of the trip). My extended family is considering a trip for the following year (2018). However, we won't have final details and decisions made before I purchase our 10 day tickets (probably purchasing in the next few weeks if a price increase is announced).

Question: If I purchase 10 day tickets, but extended family plans a trip for 2018 - can I upgrade my tickets to Annual passes? If so, does that happen right at the park on our first day? Do I have to purchase tickets from Disney to be eligible to upgrade? Or can you purchase from reseller?

Or, will I have to know my final decision before purchasing any tickets?

2. You can upgrade at any ticket booth or Guest Relations any day (that your original ticket is still valid) that you'd like, even after you have used the ticket.
But, the earlier that you upgrade, they earlier you can take advantage of the various AP perks.

I'm an advocate of upgrading ASAP - especially with the current dining perks. There's really no reason to wait, unless you're uncertain at the start of the trip and become certain at the end.

Also, with the potential for extended family (and I presume a large group,) I would investigate TiW to see if it makes sense to you.
