Annual pass upgrade question

I booked a package that includes room and 7 Day Park Hoppers?. Can I upgrade one of the Park Hoppers to an annual pass on on my first or second day there so I can start using the discounts? I will be needing an annual pass but the other person will not be going back this year. But we had to book the seven day tickets so that we can book our fastpass + for our whole stay.

Yes, easy peasy, just go to guest relations when you get there. I have had good luck with the GR at Hollywood Studios.

You can do the upgrade at any Guest Relations location or at any ticket booth at any park.

1. WHEN did you book the package (what date?)

2. Yes. But, it is best to know how much it will cost before you do the upgrade.
The date you booked the package can affect the cost.

I booked the package before the ticket price increase. But I need the AP for 2 more trips this year. So I guess I have to pay whatever the difference is.

If your ticket was created (or resort package booked) BETWEEN Feb.12,2017 & Feb.11,2018 (2017 Prices.)

Find the full Disney 2017 price for the kind of ticket that you HAVE on the 2017 Price list HERE.
Subtract that 2017 price from the current 2018 full Disney price for the kind of ticket (or AP) that you WANT. 2018 Price list HERE.
Pay that difference price for the upgrade.

Although, it never hurts to "ask nicely" for the CURRENT upgrade rate
(as though you had bought tickets after the Feb. 11, 2018.)

Just make sure you upgrade on your first day in the parks. You lose the value of that day if you don’t do it first day.

This isn't true.

The pass gets backdated to expire 1 year from the first date of use, so the full value of the ticket goes towards the upgrade.

1. Yes.
2. The value applied in an upgrade from a discounted ticket depends on the date when the discounted ticket was first minted (created.)

Cost to Upgrade:

"Price bridging" for Upgrading Tickets has changed in some cases.
Tickets purchased from stock issued before the most recent
price increase of Feb. 11, 2018 (this is not necessarily related to the date that you purchased your tickets) will be bridged only to the price that Disney sold these tickets to the public at the time.

That means:
There are currently three different ticket upgrade scenarios:

Ticket bought from an Authorized Reseller/Discounter
Ticket bought as part of a WDW Resort Package:
Ticket bought at a Disney Store:
A __ Created BEFORE Feb.12,2017 - (2016) Prices HERE.
B __ Created BETWEEN Feb.12,2017 & Feb.11,2018 (2017) Prices HERE.

Definitely upgrade early so you can start using the discounts! They add up quickly!

On the trip when we decided to join DVC we had 6 day passes, and on the last day we upgraded to AP in Disney Springs. Super easy, the whole value was deducted from the AP price. The AP start date was back dated to the first day of out vacation.
