quick ?. we are getting an annual pass for our trip next year. WHen does the date for it go into effect? We are going the first week in August 2011. and plan on going july 2012. I want to be able to use to it get the room discount for our trip in 2011. Can I buy the pass without "activating it" ? Or does it have to be activated to get the room discount? I was going to book the room soon b/c its a standard room at Poly and they go quick. Can I apply the discount when we check in?

Your AP will start the day you activate it so yes, you can buy the vouchers at any time. No it does not have to be active when you reserve your room, you "may" need it when you check in. We almost always book using the AP rate, sometimes it's requested at check-in, sometimes not. We had this case last Oct. when we were upgrading to APs but didn't yet have them. She didn't ask for it at check-in but many times they do.

As far as applying a discount at check-in...I've not heard of that option. Since rooms are blocked out for certain promotions, they sell out of rooms that have promotional rates a lot depending on how much of a demand there is way in advance.

You can however, book your room now and as it gets closer to the trip (a few months prior) you can call or check the AP rates online and then book at the discounted rate and then cancel your current reservation. You may also be able to adjust the rate if you call.

Great thanks!! Do they ask for a number or anything for the AP card? We have never gotten the AP pass but with DVC we are thinking this is going to be our best bet...especially since we like to add on a few days.

Another ? we usually go with my inlaws who wont be getting an AP pass. If one of us is staying in the room with them can they get the ap discount as well?

When you buy an AP, unless you buy it at the gate, it should be unactivated. You will get a voucher that you then redeem for your AP. You can hold onto those vouchers as long as you want.

RE AP discounts, it depends on the front desk CM. I have never been asked to show my AP on check in. Some with require the AP, others will be fine by just seeing the voucher. If they do want to see an activated AP, they should give you 24 hours to bring the activated AP back to the desk for your discount.

Ok, so I can buy the AP now... and I will get a voucher. Once I get to Disney I can get the actual pass which is used as the park hopper pass.. but on check in I should only need the voucher. IS this all right? And I can book the room at Poly now for 2011 and once the AP rates come out I can call and get the discount . Im just dotting all my i's and crossing my t's here.;)

Once you hand over the credit card number to WDW for the annual pass, it's as good as gold for your reservations. Just a heads up, last year when I was booking at the Boardwalk, I was told that I could not use my annual pass discount because all those rooms were already taken. I was told that a only a set number of rooms are a reduced rate for annual pass holders, and once they're gone, you pay rack rate. Since it was only for three days, it was no big deal, but I did tell them I am a AAA member and they did give me that discount for those three days...better than rack rate I guess.:thumbsup2
