Annual Pass resort discount _ August 2021

Hi all

I was wondering if Disney World usually releases an AP resort discount for August and if so when? Any idea if the current AP deal going up until April 2021 might get extended and include August 2021? Or do they never discount August?

Would you recommend booking the room we want now and then keeping an eye out for this discount and then having it applied to our booking or would you just wait?

We are hoping to visit in August and trying to make booking decisions.

In pre-Covid days, there was always an annual pass discount for select dates in August. The resorts really empty out once the schools start to open and the discounts are usually good. If you want to guarantee a resort room you can book now and apply the discount later if your dates, resort and room type are available with the discount. Sometimes you will have to change your reservation to get the discount, though.

Thank you that’s great to know! Hopefully if they offered it pre covid it’s even more likely now when they want to get bookings even more.

Sometimes you will have to change your reservation to get the discount, though.

Granted, that with Covid we don't know how this will play out now, but in the past, this strategy was somewhat self-defeating despite seeming logical.

Discounts are offered to fill up the hotels. If hundreds of guests book a resort at rack rate with the intention of changing to the discounted rate later, Disney will have no reason to actually offer the discount (or will reduce the amount of the discount) since the rooms are already booked. If you follow this strategy, you run the risk of shooting yourself in the foot. Personally, if discounts are your goal, I think you're better off waiting until discounts are actually announced before booking.
