I have an annual pass that expires in April. My sister told me that we need to renew by 12/31 to get the $99 renewal rate. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, does the year begin when our renwal passes are activated (like it did with our original annual passes) or does the year begin the day after our existing passes expire?

Thanks, T&B

I think it would be okay as long as you renew before your expiration date.....but I would call to make sure. The AP office there is very helpful. You can get to them via 407-363-8000.

If you renew with AAA, you can renew for only $99 no matter when you renew...in December, April, or whenever. :)

However, I think you can't renew online...is this right?

Maybe if you pick up the new ticket and just not activate it until the other one expires...

Thanks, everyone! I'll try calling the AP office tomorrow. Duh, I didn't even think of that.

One more question (I know--I can also ask the AP office this...), when you get a renewal is it for an individual person or can it be used for anyone? IF I renew I'd probably do it for my whole family, but my daughter is getting on in years (lol--almost 16 yo) and I don't know for sure that she'll be taking any more family trips with us to Universal after her current pass expires. If she doesn't end up activating it can it be used by another family member in the future?

I was in a similar situation earlier this year (April). My pass ran out in June and wanted to take advantage of the $99 renewal but wasn't returning to Orlando until December. After some head scratching at guest services they issued me with a renewal ticket which is valid from the next usage. Its the same as a standard park ticket but has AP renewal on it. Once you enter the park you go get the main pass and its valid from this day of usage.

Thanks ColUK! I still need to give the AP office a call, but need to do it when my older kids are not home since I don't want them to know what I'm scheming. I think that I would be able to convince my DH to renew if the year started on our next visit, whenever that happened to be. Otherwise, no way since he wants us to concentrate on going other places. I wish that I could afford one Orlando trip a year and another nice vacation. That would be ideal!

I just talked with someone in the AP office and got the scoop. We have until 30 days after our AP expires to renew. We'll then be sent a paper voucher that we activate the next time we are at Universal (like we did our original pass) and the year begins at the time we activate, even if it is a year or more later.

Sounds good! If WDW still did it this way we would have renewed our APs there when they expired, too.
