How does the AP renewal work?

For example, my current pass expires on July 9th, 2008. I'm not going back until Aug 2008, so would an AP in Aug be considered a new AP or a renewal?

IIRC, renewal price is good 30 days before/after expiration. You will still have the same date (plus a year) for expiration on the new pass. So your new pass will expire July 9th, 2009 whether you renew it in June, July or Aug 2008.
