Annual Pass renewal question

I just have a quick question about annual pass renewal. If I renew before my current Platinum Pass expires and into the new equivalent one does that one automatically activate or do I have to activate it before it does. Just curious as it will effect future planning if it auto activates as that would start the "clock" ticking from that day vs maybe being able to wait a bit to activate it and then start the clock on it.

Thanks

No, renewals are active right away.
So I am guessing you mean from the day my current AP expires, yes? I am hoping it does not activate on the day it is purchased as I will still have 30-40 days left on the old one at that point.

Thanks for the info.

Mine activated on purchase, but I needed it to so that I could make park reservations.

Renewals extend your pass by one calendar year.

If you renew online, you new pass will automatically appear in MDE and will self activate on it's anniversary date.

If you renew by phone, you will need to manually link the renewal to MDE and will need to stop at either a park ticket window or guest relations location to activate the renewal.

Regardless of how you renew, you will be able to make park reservations using the renewed pass once it's linked to MDE.

It should be from the day it expires…

correct. In the past, a new AP activated when you used it the first time. The renewal activates the day after your current one expires. Currently, you can renew 60 days before it expires or up to 30 days after, but then the activation date is still right after the previous AP expired.

Question. Please assume Florida residency for this. When you renew an existing pass online, during the time new pass sales are halted, do you get your choice of any of the four types of current passes or is there only one selection for the pass you had or it’s equivalent?

Thanks to all for the info. I had thought it did this but wanted to be sure. Would have been really nice if it didn't activate until use as that would have given more flexibility but what can ya do.

Thanks again

You can renew to any pass level you are eligible for and keep the renewal savings.

You get all four options. If I remember correctly it will automatically select the one closest to what you originally had, but you can pick whichever level you want.

As a Florida resident AP holder currently with Incredi-Pass, I see that I can renew into any of the four passes. If I downgrade for this renewal period to another pass, would I be able to renew into a higher pass a year from now? At least as things are currently, understanding that Disney can change this any time.

I guess what I'm asking is if a FL resident with a lower pass today were renewing, are they offered all four passes for renewal options?

Yes, at your renewal time you can choose to downgrade or upgrade. If you choose to downgrade, just keep in mind that you will not be able to upgrade until new passes are sold or it’s your renewal time again.

It's time to pull the trigger on our renewal and it looks to me like the Sorcerer Pass is only blocked out for Christmas week between now and June 2023 according to the calendar at https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/passes/blockout-dates/disney-sorcerer-pass

Is this the normal blockout for Sorcerer's Passes? Only Christmas week? Is there any chance they would make changes to the current published calendar which is through June 2023, e.g. suddenly block out Easter week? It's quite a savings from the Incredi-Pass and would work fine for us if those are the only blocked out dates.

Also Thanksgiving week.

Sorcerer passes are blacked out the 2 weeks around Christmas/NY and Thanksgiving week, they are not blocked on Easter week.

Any changes they make to the calendar would have to be for new sales effective after a given date.

For peace of mind, be sure to get screen grabs of the calendar in effect when you make the purchase. Then if there’s any discrepancy, you’ll have something to point to.

Nobody knows. There might not even be APs a year from now. Historically, you were able to renew into any category you qualified for. But who knows what will happen to APs in the future.

Has anyone had luck renewing early (before the 60 days) to make park passes?
Nope.

I was able to do this a year and a half ago, but when I tried it earlier this spring, they said they are no longer doing it. They suggested if I was worried about getting park reservations for a trip after expiration, I could buy a ticket, and then use the value of the ticket toward the renewal when I reached 60 days.
