Annual Pass renewal question

I thought I read on here somewhere that they had extended the 13 month annual pass promotion. My pass expires in April, so I have not already used this promotion. We are debating on whether or not to renew our passes this time and the 13 months would probably sway me. Also we just joined DVC this past year (a small direct from Disney contract), so we are eligible for the gold AP this year (we never travel during the blackout periods anyway). Is the 13 month promotion still good if I swap to the gold pass this year? Thanks! I'm trying to figure out if I need to buy some UCT tickets tonight. We only have 1 trip planned in the next year (after our passes expire), but we could fit two in with the 13 months.

Our APs have expired now but we will be buying APs again this year and we are DVC members. I am completely confused with all of the changes. If I purchased the APs now, will they become active from the day of purchase or from the first use day? Previously time started ticking away from the time of purchase. We will be going 3-4 times in the next year but our first trip won't be until April. Stressing me with this stuff!

I think you can buy the vouchers now and not activate them til you get to the park in April, but hopefully someone who knows more than I do will come along and tell you for sure!

True that.

Buying a NEW AP via the internet, phone or mail means that it will not be active until a guest
activates it, in-person, at WDW.

But, a RENEWAL means that the renewal AP WILL be active, and have the same anniversary date (extended by a year) as the original AP from which it was renewed.
(Except... it COULD be one month LATER than that, if the 13-month deal was in effect.)

I believe you have until October 1st of this year to renew and get the 13th month

Thanks! That's what I was thinking too. With the 13th month we can get in 2 trips on our passes and make it worth renewing again.

My DVC AP (Gold) expires on Sept 3....I'll be renewing it in early August. Because it's expiry date is prior to Oct 1, I should then get an AP that expires on Oct 3, 2018...as I understand it. I believe they did this because the 13 month program came about in Oct....and those that had just purchased APs, like me, were feeling a bit left out!!!

As far as I know, time has never started ticking on APs until you activate them at the gate. When you purchase, you get a voucher, not an activated AP. We bought our vouchers for our May trip in September.

Agreed.
Nobody can purchase a new ACTIVE AP online, by mail or via the phone.

Guests can only buy and/or activate a working AP in-person at WDW.

If you purchased an AP in October and received 13 months for the price of 12, and you renew in September, will you get another 13 month AP or a 12 month AP?

no it is a one time only deal

I was told more than once to wait until we arrived to purchase our APs because they start at the time of purchase but they could have been talking about renewing the APs vs buying them after they have expired.

They were probably just talking about renewing. But even so, if you renew 30 days before your expiration or the day before your expiration, the date it expires is still one year from your original expiration date. The renewal doesn't end the pass so you technically have nothing to activate and nothing that would benefit waiting to buy.

Unless someone was just misinformed and gave you wrong info in saying that an AP starts the day you buy it and not the day you activate it

you can get a new AP and it will not start until you turn in your valcher at a ticket booth or GR ( Disney may say you have to activate it with in a year of buying it or a mother time Fram) but I would get my AP at lest 61 days before my trip so that I could book FP

If you're staying on site.

Off site AP's book 30 days out
