Annual Pass Questions...

Long time reader, few time poster here! I have a few annual pass questions, I'm hoping someone can answer for me.

1. I can buy discounted 2 day hoppers, if I remember right, they say millitary on them (even though I'm not!) Can these be exchanged for annual pass, and if so will it be at the rate I paid? (If I buy the hoppers I can spread out the payment of my annual pass, even if it doesn't actually make the pass cheaper. :) )

2. Are there ANY discounts on the purchase of an annual pass. (I don't think so, but thought I would ask!)

3. If we get the Premium pass, with no parking, can you add parking on at a later date? If so, would you be able to use what you paid that day to go to the additonal cost?

I think those are all my questions! Thanks!

P.S. Anyone know of any great last minute hotel discounts? As in we are planning on going June 24-26! :cool1:

1. I think any valid park hopper can be upgraded (as far as I know...) and you will be credited the actual price that you paid for the pass toward an annual pass.

2. I think the only discount on an AP is if you renew your AP at a certain time before it expires.

3. The Premium AP comes with parking already. The Deluxe you can get with or without parking. I think you could add it later, but I'm not sure if they would credit what you paid for parking.....

Not sure about cheap last minute tickets - it's prime DL time right now! Even Hojo is $159/night! Try priceline.com or hotels.com maybe??

About the military tickets...I've read here that the purchaser actually pays MORE than the value of the ticket. So, say you pay 100, but the ticket ends up only being worth 95. The upgrade value on the ticket is 95, so you'll pay the difference between that and the AP. You've lose $5.

If the people who have posted that are correct, then don't get the military ticket to start off with.

Also, you can continue to upgrade during the year. There is no pro-rating, you will pay the same total price (and I don't think they go back and retroactively give you the higher discounts you missed out on, lol), but you could start off upgrading to Deluxe, then go up to Premium later if you had the need.

Whoops! I switched the words Premium and Deluxe around! We are getting the Deluxe.

I will double check the ticket price with the stated price on the back of the ticket. I'm pretty sure the last time we bought these tickets the amount on the back was the same as what we paid. The savings is only about $10 between buying the ticket at the park. The reason I want to do it this way is I can pay through payroll deduction, so I don't have to come up with the full price of our AP right now!

I'm pretty sure we will have no need to upgrade to premium, it's pretty easy to plan around block out dates, as we live in Vegas. This year I do plan to save all of our food receipts to see how much we save, and compare to what we would have saved if one of us had the premium. I'm still wondering about the whole parking thing though. We are still not sure where we are going to stay, but if it's with in walking distance we won't need parking this time, but we might sometime later in the year.

Oh I totally understand wanting to upgrade intead of flat-out purchase something. :) We used our 5 day hoppers from our package deal in Sept to upgrade to Deluxes. Very nice, to not pay the whole amount at once!

you can't add or take off parking anymore. it's only on the premium passport,
I asked the AP department. I wanted all the discounts but not the parking.
they said, it only comes as stated. but, you can book at motel 6 at 100 West Disney Way / I-5 at Katella Avenue / West Disney Way for around 75.00 a night. go to motel6.com and enter motel 1066 and use the Click6 Rates when booking rooms. it's around half a mile from the disneyland front gates but I always take the ART bus anyways for 3.00 a day. like Tom Boddett says,
He'll keep the light on for you.

You can add parking to any AP. However, you cannot remove it from the Premium AP. I don't know too many 7 yr olds that can drive and need the parking perk, but you can't remove it.

If you want to add parking to your AP, bring your parking reciept (for that day) to the AP processing center and they will credit the $12 parking fee toward the parking portion of your AP. Here's the link to Disneyland.com that states the parking can be added for $59.

Thanks Califgirl! That's what I wanted to hear about parking. We don't usually plan our trips in advance, just go whenever we "need" to! So, we usually use hotwire, so we never know where we will stay. For our trip this week we got the Extended Stay on Clemintine for $39 a night! It's close enough to walk, so we won't get the parking this trip. Good to know that if we have to park next trip it should be easy to add.

On upgrading, will they count whatever price is on the back of the ticket towards the upgrade?

Does only one AP need the parking or all tickets if you want the parking? hope this makes sense..

does it ask for your AAA number or say on your ticket that you are an aaa member? I dont have an aaa card but my mother does. Would it be possible to use hers and use all my credit card information or would she have to buy them and they be in her name?

Well, our tickets didn't have the price on the back. But they are encoded with their "upgrade value", so there didn't need to be a price on the back. I was able to call Costco Travel and ask what the tickets worth was, and that matched what was encoded (found out after we upgraded).

When I ordered my AP from the AAA site last year, I was not asked for my AAA number nor was I asked to show my membership card at the processing center.

just curious, if you buy a military ticket, why would you pay more than the value of the ticket? wouldn't one of the benefits of buying a military member to get the tickets at a discount?

a 5 day military adult hopper is $165 and on the Disney website it is $194, so wouldn't that be a saving?

maybe I just haven't realized it, {been on active duty for 17 years} but I always thought we got our tickets at a discount as a benefit to being in the military...this year I actually booked my trip through AAA so I will have to check and see what the value of the tcikets actually are.

please don't throw anything at me:hippie:

All APs within a family do not need to be identical. For instance, if children cannot drive and you're going with deluxes, than you can probably just do parking for the parents APs.

If you're going with a friend who doesn't have an AP, but you're in the same car, you can get the parking provided your AP has it.

For what it's worth, you may want to consider the premium simply because you have no blackout dates. I thought that I could plan around blackout dates, but learned that I can't plan around friends visits to Disneyland. You also get 15% food discounts and 10% merchandise discounts with the premium.

Does anyone know how much it costs each year to renew an AP? I'm considering upgrading our 5 day park hopper to an AP and I've heard that when you renew an AP yearly you save even more. I would love to get AP's for our trip in Nov. then just renew it yearly. Anyone know how much it cost to renew? I'm looking at the one that doesn't have blackout dates, premium I think it was.

Thanks much!!

I think you get 20.00 off for renewing before you expire.
