I've never had one, but I think when you pre-purchase you are given a voucher. The first time you go to the parks you "activate" it and it begins the count for your 365 days of use. It is my understanding that your year does not begin until your pass is activated.
Is this true? I am thinking of purchasing an Annual Pass, but my trip will not be until Thanksgiving time. I was concerned that it started when purchased, this will make a world of difference for me!
It's true that the AP voucher can be purchased in advance and does not get activated until you exchange it for an annual pass at one of the parks or at DTD guest service area. I have purchased an AP voucher in advance before and the date issued was when I exchanged it at the Animal Kingdom in July, which was 4 months after I bought it.
but we picked up our annual pass when we stepped off the airplane in orlando.....we got it at the Disney store and we were activated at that time. Unless you are using it for a code or different rate. Or if you are planning on getting the DDE card which needs a number off your annual pass. I would wait for that. We just used our annual pass for the third visit in a year and got 22 days off the pass. We will also check to see how the new magic your way passes compare.
Thanks for the info. I am planning on using the annual pass to receive discounted room rates also. It seems to be the better way to go for me and my wife. The way I figure, after all discounts it will be cheaper!
