Annual Pass Question

We have a trip planned that runs from 8/18 to 8/25. Our annual passes expire on 8/20. Am I correct in my assessment that because we can't renew our APs until 6/21 that we won't be able to book any Fastpass+ options for the portion of our trip from 8/21 to 8/25 until we renew on 6/21?

I have heard of a work-around where we can purchase a 5 Day MYW ticket and then upgrade it later. If we do that we will only have to pay the bridge difference between the value of that ticket and the DVC AP Renewal price?

Thanks all!

i have been able to book FP+ with my AP renewal before activating the new AP. Purchase the AP renewal through the Disney website and choose "will call" for ticket pickup.

That doesn't answer my question. I can only renew 60 days out, which is in the middle of my stay. I need to have a ticket linked to make FP+ selections. Therefore, I don't think I can make all my FP+ selections on 60 days from check-in since I won't have a valid ticket for the last five days of my stay. I can't link that ticket until later. Looking for a way to be able to maximize my FP+ window.

I think you can renew in advance of that 60 day mark. You should call and double check that.

Otherwise, yes, you can buy a ticket and use it to renew your AP once you get onsite.

From www.disneyworld.com/renew :

Passes can be renewed up to 60 days before or up to 30 days after your expiration date, and you receive a discount when you renew! But don't delay, because whether you renew by your expiration date or any time up to 30 days after, your renewal pass will still expire 12 months after your original expiration date.

You can purchase prior to 60 days in advance of the expiration. I did this very thing last year for two APs. Ours expired several days into our reservation which would have prohibited us from making our FP+ reservations for the duration of our stay. I called Disney, spoke with a ticketing agent, explained the situation, paid for our renewal and the renewal certificate was in MDE within minutes. I linked them to our account, ordered new Magic Bands and, more importantly, booked for the entire stay when our window opened. The only issue we had (and it wasn't truly an issue) was the Magic Bands did not ship to us prior to our trip. Didn't bother us at all because we already have many, many Magic Bands.

So, it can be done and if you are told that it can't, insist that it is possible--we had no problem whatsoever but as we all know, not all Disney agents are created equally. ;)

Thankfully we won't have that issue this year. We are going after our APs expire so we can renew at the 60 day advance window. :yay:
